micky 3,325
I use live catch traps to mop up any stragglers in gardens or padocks etc, dont find them much use for taking large numbers though, run my mk6 fenns mostly in the summer months or in follow up to large ferreting jobs. never been a fan of bodygrip traps.I like BGs,i have some pocket poppers set along a railway fence ,and some set in a stone embankment alongside a motorway, once they have weathered in there deadly ,though some will catch from day one ,inow put the trap in the cubby after a week ,then its just a matter of lifting dead rabbits, young rabbits are problem in the spring so i open the trigger wires, and hard set the trap, that way the small kits will get through ,but the bigger stuff will not, these traps are not everyones cup of tea but with a bit of groundwork they work very well. For rabbits i dont personally think a BG can do anthing a fenn can do in the same place you dont set them in the same place ,there completely different ,have you ever set one? Quote Link to post
IanB 0
There both good traps, the fenn being preferable for mouths of burrows....We all have our won methods but both traps are excellent. Quote Link to post
moley 115
There both good traps, the fenn being preferable for mouths of burrows....We all have our won methods but both traps are excellent. well as you know i run about 100 bg,s at a time in certain situations and find that tho they work in burrow mouths they are not as good as fenns , for other situations like under fences , thru cover etc , they are far better that fenns, i wouldn,t waste my time and effort setting them if i didn,t think they worked better , e.cook , you should give them a try , you might just change your mind Quote Link to post

Guest davieboy
I have never used the body grip traps, would they be suitable for underneath fences etc if there are sheep in the field or not Quote Link to post

I trap for a hobby ,so i am not motivated by results or reward ,but what i do ,i like to think i do well,to me the home of the bg is the run,in corn, braken, gorse,or through a wire fence, places where it is hard to set a fenn, ihave found that if you can close an area down with twigs ,stones ,etc you can get very good results, espescially in an isolated or well goverernd area, but there again ,i have the time to do these things, fenns are ok,but they are so awkward to carry and use,the fault with BGs is there just to good, they kill anything ,in fact ,if i had two hundred bodygrips i could take russia.Happy new year. Is it legal to set them in the fence like that? Nice catch three in a fenn. Quote Link to post
IanB 0
Thing with the bodygrips when trapping rabbits a snare will do the same job 9 times out of 10 .. Quote Link to post
micky 3,325
Thing with the bodygrips when trapping rabbits a snare will do the same job 9 times out of 10 .. thats right, but theres times ,and places when you want that rabbit dead, not dancing around on a wire.Places near me you cannot lift a snared rabbit because the foxs or badgers get them, there much safer in a trap. I live in quorn country foxs are like grouse ,or unicorns, touch one and your off Quote Link to post
IanB 0
I live in Tea Leaf country micky a nice fenceline full of bodygrips and there gone... Snares are pennies to replace compared to BGs... But they all have there uses including BG's & Fenns its nice to have a change Quote Link to post
Netter 0
I know where your coming from IanB, I set a few traps and snares out on a spot the land owner said was 100% private, I got there to check them at dawn to find a fella walking a German Shepherd helping himself to a few snared rabbits, needless to say after I had a word with him, he came round to my way of thinking. froese11 1
hello all, I have been doing a small amount of snaring and a few days ago i had a rabbit either break or chew through my string where it attached from the peg to the snare. I was wondering if you guys think i have cheap string or what. Any suggestions as to what i should change to would be helpful. luckily the rabbit ran straight into another of my snares and i recovered him. thanks Quote Link to post
