minion 29
The first round heat between myself and fieldmarshall was ran last night and the b*****d won Firstly I would like to say he is a top bloke and even offerd me a room at his house to save me travelling back last night. His mate Mel was the judge and again he was brand new too. Basically I left the house at 4pm and met them at 7pm. I jumped into their car and an hour later we arrived at their permission. The ground was frozen solid but we decided to go ahead due to the distance I had travelled. Not udeal conditions but they were the same for both dogs. I had the first slip and callie ran the rabbit but lost it over the brow of the hill then chris slipped bez and he picked up his first rabbit with ease. Rabbits were very thin on the ground but about 15 - 20 minutes later I slipped Callie on her second and she gave it a great run but lost it. Chris then slipped Brz but he missed (closeley) his second rabbit of the night so it was back to me. We only managed a few runs each and the final score was 4-0 to Chris and Bez. Even though Callie didn't pick any up I am happy with her effort but my only dissapointment was that she had trouble seeing the rabbits in the beam. Normally I lamo fairly small fields and she looks down the beam and spots the rabbits but last night she just couldnt see them for some reason. When I walked her closer and they moved she was off like a rocket and was great to see her running on larger fields but to be honest I will need to work on this. Chris kept appologising for the lack off rabbits but unfortunatly that is out of our control. Both dogs got equil slips and had the same chance. He took his chances and won. Fair and simple. It would be easy for me to say that the conditions were not right etc etc but the better dog won. Plain and simple. Not just the better dog on the night but the better dog. There is no argument that his lurcher is a far supperior dog than Callie. It was everything a lurcher should be and even if we had the perfect conditions Callie would not have beat him. It was strange to see the diferance in styles. The lurcher looked effortless and Callie was like a rocket. Callie was twisting and turning and was great to watch but Bez was nailing the rabbits and thats what counts. After the comp Mel gave his dog a run as he had just bought it last week and to run salt in the wounds the b*****d caught its first run Again another good looking dog. Will Callie make the grade? who knows but to be honest she has a home for life anyway. Perhaps I have the wrong attitude but I would have been happy watching her run all night with out catching as I just love to see her run. Like I said well done to Bez and chris but I hope you get f****d in the next round - Just jestin!!!! All the best of luck and I really do think it will take a good dog to beat Bez. I am going back down in Jan for a night out again to see if I can get my revenge ha ha Well after a 350 mile round trip I finally got home at 4am due to the bloody blizzards on the A1 and kids were up at 6.30!! chartpolski 24,264
Well done to both of you for getting the heat run !! I know 1st hand the difficult decision it is to run a heat when the distance travelled, condition of the ground , and lack of rabbits, has to be balanced, most importantly, with the dogs welfare !! A good honest write up !! Cheers. Quote Link to post
