should i go for it

Recommended Posts

I found out today that my job will pay for 75%-80% of my dsc1 and dsc2. Also they have a lot of deer that needs to be controled. Last year they culled around 3000. Do you think i should go and book this course or do i need more time with my shotgun and rough shooting. Do i need a mentor is there any one with a dsc cd that i could borrow or get a copy off.

Ihave not had my SGC long but i grew up around shooting and hunting.

What job do you do?

Personally I would get straight in on the course . I have Level 1 & 2 but had to pay for them myself.

You will learn a great deal on the course from deer identification , safety , legislation etc

You will probably be better off if you have little knowledge of deer as everything they cover will stand you in good stead for the future!

Good luck

your work ar going to pay towards this????

you'd be mad not to take em up on it....

do your level 1 and study the disc if you can get a copy....

then take your time to do level2 and get a "bit o eperience" under yer belt.

once completed level 2 you have couple o years to complete level2 if i remember correctly??

also gonna come a time possibly in future when it may be near as damn it compulsory

go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as said before it can only do you good stead for future and hopefully ingrain safety and good practice into you!!

all the best

I have an Open FAC with Every Deer and I am a Deer Mentor.....I got it through experience and practice....but if someone would pay 75-80% of the fee I'd do a DSC anyway!!!

i did it earlier this year in north yorkshire and enjoyed every scrap of it mate only one piece of advice would be when ya book it leave plenty of time before ya attend and use the time to get ya nose into the book they send ya as if not you will find its alot to sink in in a short time

good luck

It is an easy way in to it if you dont have allready have land and an FAC.

I did mine a couple of years ago and irrespective of how much you think you know, it does reinforce alot of knowledge. I did it through pressures of an estate i wanted the stalking on, insurance, due dilligence, risk assesment.blah, blah, blah. Never got the stalking, but it was worth getting it anyway.

I would also suggest booking in plenty of time, because I thought I knew alot until the bloody book turned up..then you realise how little you know. ( and I studied deer management as part of my University degree) :icon_eek:

Also gives you Trained Hunter status for certification of carcuses when selling to the Venison Dealer.
