Those two hounds are "Doc and Dice " their breeding is Bluetick and Bluetick cross with Black and tan .

They have excellant noses and a fella couldn't ask for better cougar hounds , for that matter cat hounds because they run Lynx and Bobcat as well . But their great to train young hound with . These fella's know their business . Regards Bullet

I guy down in NM (i think) got a 65-70lb Mtn Lion with his Staghounds not long back Taffy...he had three or four dogs on it, but a couple was pups, and he has a tough dog named "Joe' that done most of the work..."Joe" is the uncle to my young bitch i beleave.

Also, my good mate that bred my gear told me once they caught a 140lb cat in CO, with four big strong Staghounds...funnily enough they had him stretched out fairly quick, and although they got damage, it was nothing that you would think from such an encounter!..

All four Staghounds where 100+lbs, so they 'aint no big whippet...they can be hard/tough dogs on quarry, thast for sure!..

Hey Fella's , glad you enjoyed the kitties . Yes - if one of them , get it in his head that he don't won't to tree and stands his ground their will be a fight and it will not be pretty thats for sure . Dogs will be lost and or ripped up Bad !

Things can be done to reduce this from happening .

We don't practice tree and release on our hunting ground - this just educates the cats and your asking for it .

We don't turn loose on She cats traveling with yearlings - leaving them for restocking and not teaching them the game . Save dogs and save money . Vet bills are exspensive to patch up dogs . The most I ever spent on a dog was 1400. dollars canadian to have him stitch up and bone reset . The cougar really laid a beating on him . But I paid 3500.00 CDN for the dog . He made a full recovery and I hunted him for a number of years after his fight . He did pick up a few additional shaving scares but nothing as bad . I used him as a stud to keep his blood line going . And his young are as great a hound as their dad was . I lost him last summer - he just passed away of old age .

A fully trained cougar hound will cost 2500 - 5000 dollars . And if you train your own you will value them the same . Sample because if you loose on or two and have to replace them it going to cost you big time .

Some thing that is hard on cougar dogs is if you use them for bear as well .

Its not the bear hunting really - but wolves - wolves will hear hounds working and home in on and kill the hounds .

Thats why - my cougar hounds don't run bears . And I will not dump out on a cat track if a wolf track has been seen in the area.

Last spring two buddies lost both their packs of dogs to wolves . They each lost 6 really nice dogs . 12 in total . The dogs were killed 25 kl. apart . It was a big lose for them .

The picture I posted yesterday , of the cougar . That lady was sure happy with her kitty .

This big boy is not happy at all !

This kitty measured 8' 4" and tipped the scale at 190 lbs.

When a cougar starts to scream in the night it will stand your hair straight up . It will bring out of the soundest sleep in a hurry ! They are fairly loud .

great pics and tale, is the wolf thing a common occurance?

It's been getting out of control more and more every year . With some states and provinces not allowing the hunting of them . Their numbers have increased . This winter their was the first recorder attack on a human . And the human was killed in Saskatwan , Canada . First in 70 yrs . Their was town in the Northern area's that placed their people on wolf patrols - the dogs were walking around in the streets. And the provincial government forbide the shooting of them . Stupid !!!
