bullmastiff 615
I believe STABS on here used his staffies for all sorts of hunting/shooting before he moved to Aus, he has posted loads of photos previously, search out his old threads. I started to use my bullmastiff for shooting/retrieving when my spanial died. Shes not spanial/lab quality but still helps out, so anythings possible! Quote Link to post
Dawn B 212
Hi Peter. Many breeds have a lot of talent for different work. It only needs an owner to bring out those talents and you can have a very versatile Terrier. As mentioned, Stabs has Staffs and they would frequently help out when he went shooting, retrieving and flushing out etc. as good as any gundog. I use my Borders for the same thing, retrieving, marking, flushing etc.. Why would I want a gundog? Some people will always slam others because of what they do, probably because they cant be bothered themselves to put in a bit of extra effort. If you have a Staff and want to do more with it, you go ahead, Im sure it will perform adequately given time and patience. Quote Link to post

All dogs have the same traits, but they are stronger or more dominant in some breeds than others. Most dogs can be trained to do a specific job, but they probably wont take to it as quickly, or be as good at it as a dog bred purposefully for that job. Quote Link to post
