Terrier man 38
out of those mentioned so far I would go for the cocker, I have a vizsla and have it as a pot licker ! bought as a deer dog she's too vocal, when left alone in the landie she howsl the place down, that then has continued when travelling in the back of the navara even if other dogs are there or not, if I take her out picking up she has to be with me the whole day if left she howsl, I am not saying thats the case with them all just my personal experience and it has put me off ever having another one. As for the cockers, I have 3 at the moment and they are cracking wee dogs, very fun Nic I think Nic you were very unlucky with your Viz. As you say, not all Vizslas are like that. The lines that Gary has are very much working type and are a pleasure to watch working, if not sometimes a little worrying when we are getting close to the end of a drive. The power these Vizslas have is something to see! he he he i keep telling you lisa dont worry i know where they are lol....never a flushing point spoilt lol.....you were unlucky nic what i have is quiet non vocal and works to the death......i like the way i can get inside theyre heads and wind em up or slow them down...the vizsla is the easyest of hpr's to train.... altho the lines i have arent for the faint hearted lol.... they do work and cover ground!!! Good stuff gary... tho i have to admit if lads over here saw a vizsla they would think i had dyed the gwp hair orange as theres only show/pet strains over here and they dont like geting scratchs and there paws wet .. also a different build to your finnly built well conditioned animals.. but i suppose its like everything else theres good and bad in every breed .. you certainly have the good... Garypco 2
garypco.....is there any difference in temperment or working style between the wire-haired and short vizlas mate and are they from the same breeding way back or are they like gsp - gwp totally different temprament wise theres no real difference the whv is a lot heavyer with more bone although not always the case... the whv as a breed is a relatively new breed mixing the gwp with the smooth vizsla...the one thing that seems evident is the show strain of viz is slowly self distructing as a working breed going too high at the shoulder and losing head and bone.... druimmuir 1
Good luck with the dogs Gary, I admit I have probably been unlucky with mine, but had been told afterwards they can sometimes be vocal, a local keeper has 6 or 7 vizslas and they are the same, howl in the truck inbetween drives when he goes picking up, and thats the ONLY thing thats put me off otherwise I have found her quite easy to train, she has a lovely soft mouth and marks quite well, maybe I could get her voicebox mended Best of luck with the dogs you have they look cracking, Nic Quote Link to post
