thinking of buying my first lurcher, help please

Recommended Posts

First you need to decide what type of breeding you want in it,do you like bitches, dogs, rough, smooth, think about what you wanna do with it, and what size of dog will meet your needs!!!! Then keep your eyes and ears open, if you're not sure about them take someone along who's had or better still got lurchers to look with you........

no no, thinking of buying somthing12-16 month (sorry forgot to add that)

That rules out seeing the parents then. If I was you and the fact you are that inexperianced you need to ask the question in the first place, I'd take along someone you trust and in the know. Too many things you need to look out for to explain. Most important is, why are they selling?

Have a good think about it JPT i still think anyone who is getting a dog should always get them at 6/8 weeks old get that bond going between you learn him from a early age bring him on to your own liking to many of these 12/18month old dogs are been sold for a reason becarefull which way you decide to go ATB MICKY

aye my last pup put me off puppys for life, never met a dog that is such a pain in the backside in all my life, my other dog was fine as a pup but she has been a terror

I know the feeling but buying an older dog can give you bigger problems. All pups are a pain but older dogs aren't always the best solution. That's not to say you can't get a decent older dog for sale. A lot of owners wouldn't know a good dog if they seen one and the rate some of them go through dogs they are bound to let the odd good un slip through. But it is a big risk.

Thats why we choose to keep dogs JPT because its a great challenge bringing them on then when they start to reward you it is the best feeling you can imagine
