Guest anonymous
Can you remember how you got into hunting? I went fishing with my dad since I was four but I don't count that. I remember the first time I went ferreting was when I was 7. Can't remember much apart from meeting up with this stranger who had ferrets, funny how the memory works? It must have been enough to get me hooked cos I can remember nagging my dad and getting my first ferret when I was 9. Me and my mate thought we were the dogs bollocks, walking the hedgerows with a pocket full of nets and a ferret in a money bag. Ahhh bliss. Quote Link to post

whin 463
had ferrets since 10 and had running dogs since twelve and a terreir , all miners villages localy and all hare and roe land witht he odd rabbit here and there live a hundred yards from the ocean or north sea so hunted in winter and fished in summer , alawyd had greyhounds family in donegal haad greyhounds so we used to course them as boys met guys from other villages with hare dogs and it went on from then , then got into salmon pheasants roe but no body showed us we just found out through natural hunting and learning, were alot of hares localy growing up, so hares and the odd lamping trip and once 14 we ventured to estates first lite slipped them on a roe and well, nearly 23 yeatrs ago and things havent changed apart from the law and alot wiser , dont run dogs to they drop now , as kids dogs used to say fech it as we were mad keen , had a few norfolk type good dogs but would fech of home if they had been run to death , but you learn , so easy to run hare afterhare when young with no adult guidance , lucky the dogs were cleverer than us at times after a few years only gave them three hares on a walk then graduly got lamps and went lamping , met other young guys ,but chaseing hares iss not poaching for gain as they did were i was brought up salmon was gain phesis of trees gain roe gain , rabbsa o pound apiece gain hares sport in day time , we used snares 4 10s airsporters , webley mark 3s , locayl you can snare big game in some woods but not always the best but times were not plentiful espec in the miners strike anything was fair game woolly backs or antlerd game it taught me lessons thta no comps or books could at ayoung age Quote Link to post

paddy.t 5
Not long ago realy. but have always been around farms, cattle etc. Old farmer on my road used to pay me for collecting eggs and helping clean cattle sheds out and milking, my grandad used to take me from being able to walk. Nans cousin has a farm up north yorks that breed shetland sheep, they used to have a few beef cows. so ive always gone up there. Been beating for about 4 seasons now and got to know people there that showed me hunting methods and so on, so then i started poaching where-ever and when ever. Got invited to my 1st clay shoot 1st season and got hooked since then... But now a family freind who i clay shoot with introduced me to a keeper down lincon i go down there every sunday ferreting, air rifle or whatever. Not got myself much permission just lincon and another shoot. Would like more but its so bloody hard to get now, especialy me being a young lad no-one seems to trust us, just usual drug taking abuseive stero-type. Happy hunting Paddy Quote Link to post
