Cant comment on that, but a lot of greyhounds are sent over to Pakistan and do well and are treated well Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post
Tiff 36
Leeview aren't greyhounds normally run on pretty easy ground, most of the ones I've seen have C R A P feet, they would never cut it on any rough land. Or are you talking about a different type, coursing etc? Quote Link to post

I spent half my life out there and still visit regularly, and most of the Arab peninsular guys run their salukis in Pakistan or North Africa, as coursing is banned in most Arab countries. Cheers. I know a lot of coursing goes on in Pakistan and Central Asia, as well as other dog "sports" such as bull and bear baiting and dog fighting, thats why the Arab guys go out there, as it's all banned in the Arab countries. Cheers. Quote Link to post

Meerihunter 7
I heard some good dogs went to the middle east but all died unable to cope with the heat or the terrain. good dogs from the UK (or somewhere else?) went back to the middle east and couldn't cut it? Yes good fen dogs from the uk were apparently bought and taking to middle east and couldn't cut it not surprising really considering. Thats no discredit to fen dogs they simply are'nt bred to handle that or the hunting I do up here. Edited December 1, 2008 by Meerihunter Quote Link to post

Meerihunter 7
From what I've seen in photo's and from a contact in Pakistan the greyhounds are on bagged hare on graded surfaces Like park coursing in Ireland, totally different ball game to hunting wild hare out there in which they use arab/afghani saluki types which are said to be better than the greys as they don't get hurt. That is from the words of a Pakistani hunter I've spoke to via the net, The afghan dog of his pack being the best in his opinion. Quote Link to post

Pakistan isn't the Middle East, and all the people I know who fly their dogs from Arabia to Pakistan hunt wild hare and gazelle. They wouldn't dream of "park coursing" captive hares, but thats not to say it doesn't go on !! As we know in that area and Central Asia they course captive wolves and foxes, so probably hares as well !! Cheers. Quote Link to post
Meerihunter 7
I don't know where, but have been told it as happened from a few sources both lurchers and have been try and are still tried out there go on mekshat.com etc and you will see salukiXgreys and greys being used, but on all but the most favourable ground they will fail as serous hunting dogs (different to sport dogs run on bagged game and wild hunt once in a blue moon) thousands of years of selection for running ground like that means it does'nt get much better than they already have IMO.
