chartpolski 23,687
Well, just about everything conspired to stop this heat going ahead !! LOL !! Woodga was supposed to host and judge it, but he is suffering from broken ribs, made worse by taking a couple of tumbles again last night, during his own heat !! I saw him today, and the guy is in pain, how he competed last night was beyond me !!, but thats the measure of the man, he didn't want to let anyone down !! Anyhow, a top guy stepped in at the last moment and offered to host on his permission and judge. He called me at 5:30 and said get here by 6 as the frost is settling and the ground is hardenning up ! Now Lukebullcross had travelled up to Northumberland yesterday from Wiltshire, and has to return tomorrow, so I was desperate not to let him down !! The land we were running is the same as Woodgas and he warned us the conditions would mean few rabbits; he didn't know how accurate he was !! We met up at the farm and went into the fields I had just had 10 rabbits and a hare from on thursday, and there was nothing !! We had two slips each, and Delta took two out of two, Lukes dog unfortunately failed to connect. We covered all this ground without another slip, so decided to drive to some other ground. This was even worse, we only had one slip each, with neither dog connecting !! We'ed been out a few hours now, and there was absolutely nothing out and the ground was resembling broken concrete, so we called it a night. I am gutted that we couldn't have had more runs, as Luke travelled so far for this heat, but have enjoyed having him in my home for a couple of days, and he is invited back any time he wants. Cheers. chartpolski 23,687
So whats happened Charts?Re-run or was it settled on the limited runs? I've spoken to LDR, 'cause as you can imagine, I'm not happy about the outcome, but he says as long as we had equal slips, albeit only three each, the one that caught the most wins ! It was a very hard call to make, wether to run or not,; any othe time I wouldn't have went out in these conditions, but the lad travelled 6+ hours on a train for it, so I couldn't let him down !! The same land has, usualy, pleanty of game, but the near arctic conditions meant nothing was about ! I'm gutted it ended this way, but what could I do ? Cheers. Quote Link to post
mackem 26,574
You both flipped the coin, thats the call, rough with the smooth, congrats charts and I am sure Luke understands there are no certainties in the game. Quote Link to post

Gin 498
Yes well done CP, shame there was not more runs but nothing much out in those conditions. I'm sure Luke would agree it all rests on being lucky and getting a good night with lots of rabbits, or making the best of the conditions on the night Quote Link to post

chartpolski 23,687
Lamping dogs cannot be tested over three slips, like hare dogs; but when these things are planned, we can only hope for the best as far as weather and quarry are concerned ! I honestly would have liked to see pleanty of slips with a big bag for each dog, but we just have to accept these things. Cheers. Quote Link to post

I have nothing but admiration and respect for him ! It would gladden my heart if more young'uns, (he's 17 and I'm 56), were involved in the sport, and would put up with old guys like me !!! Cheers.
