Deker 3,478
hi im in the middle of striping this stock i think its beech but nt sure help plz Colour does not seem right for Walnut, although grain "could" suggest Walnut! Most likely Beech..... but a hell of a good one if it is!!! LEAVE it alone!!! Quote Link to post

It's very difficult just looking at a picture...and grain/colour does vary on all wood...but to be honest the more I look at it I think I would go for Walnut! Beech is a very light wood and is most commonly stained to darken it..if you have stripped this and it is "DARK", it is unlikely to be beech. Beech is also a drier more brittle wood than Walnut. Walnut has a warmer, softer, more tactile feel and is an oilier wood, it is rarely stained..no need, it has colour and grain!! But I'm no expert! Quote Link to post

Mohamed Tassem 0
Hi i don`t think air arms made a beach thumb hole stock The S400/410 series comes in Walnut Thumb hole. Definitely Walnut. Unless custom, Air Arms does not offer a thumb hole in beech. The bit on the Grip is usually a darker colored wood like ebony, the same would also be seen on the fore-end of the stock, and mostly used to adorn premium walnut stocks. I would suggest you leave the stock as it is. Its lovely as it is. That's Beech And that's Walnut. Notice the darker wood on the grip and fore-end. That is the finest bit of beech I have seen on that top gun, and the knot swirl is a brilliant immitation of Walnut! Nobody would buy Walnut if beech all looked like that!! Quote Link to post
