ribb 15
hi ,was away today doing a bit of ferreting. me, my mate and a cousin of my mates that i have not met before .the day started well enough with us getting a dozen rabbits from our fist 2 warrens then things started to go wrong with first his cousins ferret lying up then his so we broke out the flasks to try and get some heat into the situation as it was bloody freezing so ofcourse the stories started, remember the last time we did this ,do you not remember that big dog billy had ,you know the kind of thing.well his cousin tried to tell me that one of his mates had a dog with no stoppers, nothing he said where it's stoppers should be but that it was one of the best dogs he had seen work on the long ears 3\4grew1\4saluki but that it had run the stoppers off .what do you folk think could a hare dog opperate ,manouvre without stoppers .the guy swore it was the truth i don't know as i have never had a dog completely without them Quote Link to post
Tiff 36
In the Dakotas and Nebraska some breeders do the dew claws and they do the stoppers as well to prevent injury when running on snow with heavy ice. When we lived in the desert running with rocks and heavy cactus everywhere we have had dogs lose heavy layers off of their stoppers but they just callous well over and end up smaller Quote Link to post
lofti 579
What are stoppers? they are the pads they have above the ankle on the back of the lower part of the leg Quote Link to post
jimb 30
You do hear some BS One of the best ones I heard both from a lad that stays in your area ribb. Story 1 This lad was out at the long ears with his red rough dog and it was all over a hare but snapped its back leg but still kept running and killed the hare Story 2 This lad was running a small red bitch in a race and it was that fast that it over took the lure ,which makes you think ,what was the dog chaseing then? I should have written this as "WHEN the breeders do the dew claws ..." I wouldn't get a working dog of any type with dew claws intact Quote Link to post
