wingnut 27
I decided to take a day off work from the golf course, and head of for some fly fishing at one of my local waters Ellerdine with me mate, the day was perfect really nice beautiful conditions but from talking to fishery owner Gary he said that the fishing had been a affected due to the dramtic up and downs in the temperature, but people still catching well, so i paid for me two fish ticket and set of to have a good days sport, upon getting to the pool i was going to fish ( Cranymoor) i could see lots of fry swimming about with the occasional big trout soon following i thought great , so i tried a lure pattern a white loynton guinea i had a few plucks but no takes so i decided to down size my fly but nothing come from it, my mate had hooked in to some fish using gold head black flexi floss daddies, and caught two in quick succession, so i thought i would change my tatic i put on a GH olive flexifloss daddie at the bottom and a dropper above it a orange snatcher, after a few casts i hooked in to a fish only for it to spit it out fish off, my mate thought it ws hillarious, i thought perhaps the fish grapped the legs of the daddie thus why it come off so i decided to use a small white gold head daddie and use the same really slow figure of eight retrieve and long hang at the end, second cast and i was in a hard take on the hang the fish fought well but finally came to the net a nice 2 pound fish, i then spotted fishery owner Gary by one of the trees behind one of the pools i looked and i could see a bird stuck in some leader up the tree high so me and my mate went off to assist upon arriving we could see it was a Field fare really stuck around the wing, eventually we got it down and a nearby fisherman got out his snips and we cut of the line upon looking at the bird the wing was not broken just his flights really messed up at the end we straightend them out and Gary put it in a box to be released at the end of the day once it got over the trauma, which it did when i left anyway i then decided to move to a different area of the pool to see if i could hook in to one of the bigger fish of the lake, i decide to tie a olive buzzer onto the back of the shank of the hook of the daddie ( i think its refered to a the new zeland method) roughly 6-8 " behind and set about casting to the island situated in the pool, after my first cast i saw the line bend of but struck but didnt connect so i cast out to the same area again left it there for a few seconds and as soon i i began to retrieve bang a good hard take and the fish was heading off i quickly got it under control and played it into the net not a monster just under the two pound mark i would say but a fine fish never the less, so i had caught my limit and was changing my set up to do a bit of catch and release, i fished a buzzer pattern i had a few fish which were released around the same size mark as i had caught, the day was drawing to a end and me and my mate thought for the last hour we would put some big lures and on thrash them through the water deep just to see if any thing showed, no luck but a good day, we filled out the fish book of what we had caught and put our comments in for the day great day, one old boy had caught two great trout i would hazard a guess they were both a good 8 lb , any way i said my good byes and set off home, i then set about preparing my fish for supper one thing i did notice though when i was gutting the fish that both of the fish stomach contents were of lots and lots of white worms little ones ( bit bigger than buzzer size) they were still moving, i thought they were blood worm at first but dont think they were does anyone know what these are, i tried blood worm patterns whilst fishing but no success but from gutting the fish i could clearly see that they had been gorging on these lttle white worm type things. Any way a great days sport and i will certainly be going again to try and hook in the one of the doubles. Quote Link to post
