llyr21 0
for the fac i understand that you must have a good reason to want a firearm. so on the fac would you simply state that you want to shoot rabbits and control pests? Quote Link to post
llyr21 0
so even though i dont live on a farm or anything that reason would still be sufficient? what would you say to expand on that for the flo? Quote Link to post
llyr21 0
yeah as you can tell im very nevous about applying for one! the only problem i have is that the rimfire would be my first weapon so i would have no prior experience , would this be a problem ? as far as everything else is concerned it should be okay as i have no mental ilnesses, criminal record, am very responible and very safety conscious. Deker 3,478
for the fac i understand that you must have a good reason to want a firearm. so on the fac would you simply state that you want to shoot rabbits and control pests? The reason is fine but you will have to justify it, as said that will require you showing suitable land, with a suitable problem, over which you have legitimate authority to shoot the particular calibre you have requested!! Odds are, if it is granted, you will only be able to shoot on the land specified...NO other!!! Quote Link to post
llyr21 0
so it will be a close licence? so i can get another permission added if i get the flo to check it out and see if its safe? by the way will my lack of previous experience with firearms work against me? Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
It might, and they may stick a supervision condition on your ticket, which isnt a bad thing if you have no experience. Maybe join a club and seek a mentor from there. FEO's like to hear you talk about risk assesments, safe shots, general awareness about safety. Understand the safety issues around the rimfire, and they will be more comfortable with you owning a rifle. Quote Link to post
llyr21 0
To be honest then yes. It will not act in your favour.I dont mean to put a downer on things but if you have no experience of shooting then its pretty unlikely ( but not impossible) as you are unable to demonstrate experience such as weapon handling, identifying safe areas to shoot, suitable backstops etc. Can you not go out with someone experienced for a while and then apply, or join a club where you can learn firearms safety etc. I think you need a couple of other opinions mate as I dont want to be giving out wrong advice. If I was you id be getting some experience under your belt before putting in for your FAC. Like I said, get a couple of replys from others, maybe closer to your area whod be able to advise you better. Maybe buy an airgun, get some land and practice as often as you can, then think about appyling for your Fac when you can prove that you have experience of shooting live quarry. Just my opinion mate, thats all yeah i though that would be the case . i dont really like the though of an air rifle as i dont deem it to be effient enough for a humane kill. Would my chances be increased if i put down target and hunting on the fac, then practice for a few months on the ranges, as i dont intend to hunt until im a very competent shot. this would then give me a chance to learn proper gun safety and the like. i have a friend thats 2 years older, been target shooting for a few months an successfully gained an fac. is it easier to gain an fac if you use it for target shooting? and how much would it cost to add ' pest control' as a reason to your fac? Fidgety 8
...ahhh, that was the other good reason...humaneness! Quote Link to post
llyr21 0
i can completely understand where your coming from and i wont take any advice given the wrong way, the more advice the better. i guess i am a bit to eager! its just ive always wanted to take up shooting, however my mother is only willing for me to begin when im 18 in a few months. plus i like the fact that some of my stalking skills gleaned from fishing could come in useful. SportingShooter 0
If you want to have Targets on your FAC, then you will need to be a member of a Home Office approved rifle club. This involved(in the main) doing a 6 month probation so that you can be taught the rudiments of safe handling, safe shooting and accurate shooting. When you become a full member, you can apply for your FAC, with the approval of your Rifle club. Once you have it for targets then it gets a touch easier. You can then go on the look out for land, and getting permission. Once you have this in writing, you can send this to your Licensing Department (Dyfed-Powys Police) along with a request for Vermin to be added to your FAC. They will then run the land through their database to see if it has been checked, if it has then happy days. If not, they will want to accompany you to check the land, and also to check you have some knowledge of it. Once they are satisfied the land is safe, you should be granted the authority to shoot there. You can add pieces of land at a later date. You will need to ring your department with the address of the farm, and the landowners name (Usually) to ask if it has been cleared. If yes, then great, if not, you will need to go through the same procedure as above. If you can go out sometime soon and shoot a few things, and perhaps go clay shooting a few times, you will have some firearms awareness to demonstrate. Also, joining a rifle club as mentioned will be more than enough experience for the Department. Good Luck SS Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
I don't, for one take you for a fool for asking for Advice Bud Everyone was as "green" as you at some point in their shooting careers, and what's the point of being somewhat experienced, if you don't share it.
