SportingShooter 0
Abertawe Llyr Good luck with the Permissions, Corvid control on a Golfcourse is damn hard, as the course is in use during the day, Rabbits are easier, as you can lamp them when there's no one on the course at night. As for the .22 in the garden, Personally, I wouldn't feel safe doing it if there are houses in the vicinity. And an FEO wouldn't let you put that down on an FAC, you can try, but I very, very much doubt you'll get anywhere other than wasting Ink. An Acre is a big expanse for a garden, but still, too risky for my liking Quote Link to post
llyr21 0
i admit the garden thing was sumwhat poorly thought out!! it was just an idea abertawe my good man well do u go to the small bore shooting centre there? if so what are the fees like? i have a few friends that go there, so i may go to check it out and maybe join so i can get my fac and then look for land ( im pretty sure you can put down target and pest control on the fac , cant you?) oh yeah and about the corvid control, the bottom 9 holes on the golf course are usually closed during the winter as it gets to wet to play golf there, so there wouldnt be anyone near there at all. but il go to talk to the greenkeeper and club chairman on saturday as ive played golf with many of the commitee member there! deker thankyou for clearing things up for me!! i only really contemplated the idea of a rimfire today when a local hunter told me that they were cheaper and more effective that pcp air rifles, so i still have a lot to learn but thats why im on here Edited November 27, 2008 by llyr21 Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Swansea Rifle Club? Not been there for quite some time now, but there was a decent crowd there the last time I went. I seem to remember they had a restriction on the velocity of the Bullet, at 2550 fps?? So no chance of using the .222 there, may just creep in with the HMR. You can have targets and Vermin/Pests yes Llyr, You will need to do your 6 month probation at the club before you are able to apply for your FAC though. I know when I spoke to one of the members not so long back about myself rejoining, I wouldn't need the probation as I have my FAC already. I may go at some point, may meet you there, never know. Sounds like the Golf course may be an option, nice and quite with the .22 and small holes in the greens SS Quote Link to post
llyr21 0
yeah the golf course seems very interesting. plus if i get to help controling the rabbits itl alos help my game as ther wont be rabbits scratchings all over the bliking grees Quote Link to post
IanB 0
Got both and I grab my .22 everytime over the hmr... To tell you the truth I'll be getting rid of the hmr eventually when I get round to it.. Quote Link to post
cyclonebri1 8
I have the HMR and the .22. Just getting started after a lay off but, 10 years ago there was nothing to challenge the subsonic .22 rimfire, best bunny basher you could wish for. This gun will teach you an almighty amount about fieldcraft, ballistics etc, I bought an HMR because it gives a taste of centre fire performance on small vermin, and it is reconned to be a fair bit safer due to reduced ricochets? Shooting in the garden? depends if you have a "provisional" or closed license, or if you have an open one. With an open one it is down to you where you shoot, be that vyour back garden or not The firearms guy I dealt with back then was an old gent, BUT, his words to me were; "When you have your open certificate you can shoot wherever you have permission, even in your own back yard, but if you screw up we will be down on you like a ....................." Take care Quote Link to post
llyr21 0
i dont think ill be shooting in the garden any time soon. its not worth the risk. im going to keens tackle and guns on monday to check them rimfires out. but i certainly think they are a far better choice than a pcp air rifle, and they are far cheaper to buy and run. ive just got to convince my mother that they are safe when handled with care and respect. my dads all for it however so hopefully he will be able to convince her Quote Link to post

They all have moderators, expanding ammo (and very acceptable quantities as well), rifles are for target, zeroing and ALL forms of hunting/vermin control and on an Open FAC. Even my lad is bogged down with restrictions with his new FAC and he is a FULL member of a Home Office approved rifle club and has me, and all my land and business jobs as well...life is very tough these days on the whole getting any form of FAC........... I don't envy anyone starting on the process today!! Quote Link to post
llyr21 0
thats partly the reason i want to get one now, as il have it for life and restrictions are only going to get more severe in the future. Quote Link to post
lennythetip 5
btw i was wondering, what are the laws about shooting a rimfire in your garden ? my gardens about an acre and there plenty of lenght present for me to pratice along the side of the house. i have a neighbour on one side, a over grown field on another and a public woodland. if i used a back stop wish is sufficent would this be okay for praticing? plus could i put this land down as permission on the fac? It all depends what restrictions you have on your ticket? If you ave an open ticket with you doing all your own land searches any land you deem safe to shoot on is viable as long as you ave permission to lawfully shoot over it. Quote Link to post
