Guest night time my time
Iv lately been to a few whippet raceing meets,(odd bunch) to me all the dogs seem to be in far to skinny condition and couldnt possably be caperbale of a night on the lamp,i dont like to see the back bone on my running dogs, does anyone have any pics of working whippets or know better than me why a dog is run so thin? i realise they dont need the stamina of a working dog but they look terrible imo, thanks, :victory:

Most racing whippets are stripped right down in weight as they are handicaped by weight 1 yard per pound so a 30lb dog will give a 20lb dog 10 yards start.

would it be safe to asume that the whippet striped of its weight for raceing could be found a little shorter on stamina when out for a nights lamping? some fine looking animals on there,,mally thats a very powerful looking little dog and some fine bags lewis and mililken :clapper: ,

Hi there

I dont have any experience with Whippets but i do of working my dogs at differing weights .

A dog stripped down shall run/turn alot faster but can only keep it up for short bursts quite simply because they dont have any reserves.

I have quite watched dogs literally work weight off in a hard day out.

If i wanted a dog to work hard over a longer period i wouldnt expect it to do so if stripped .

It is horses for courses ,so to speak lol
