First rimfire help

Recommended Posts

well my birthday is coming up soon ( 18 at last :D ) and i was originally interested in obtaining an air rifle for vermine control, rabbits and the like. however i was recently talking to a local hunter who suggested that i apply for an fac and get a rimfire .22 as it was the same cost as a decent air rifle ( i was going to spend £500) and that a rimfire was far more efficient. im planning on sending letters out to every farm/land holder in a 30 mile radius over the next few weeks and hopefully il get lucky.

There is also a small bore shooting club 20 miles away which i will join inorder to learn the correct way of utilizing the gun efficiently and accurately.

well long story short :) i have no idea as to how much i need to spend to get a full set up that will last a reasonable lenght of time ? any advice or links would be greatly appreciated :) (i am also willing to look second hand)

Well if you want it for vermin you must first have permission preferably in writing from the land owners. Once you have this you can then apply for your FAC for pest control. If you are granted a certificate (the land will be checked by the FEO to make sure it is suitable for that calibre of firearm prior to you being granted the cert), you can then get a rifle for the money you cannot go wrong with a CZ I would go for the 16" barrel which model you choose is down to personal preferance. Put on a SAK moderator £30-£35 and a scope of your choice I have an MTC Mamba 3-12x44 on mine £180 and think its great for the purpose. The ammo is around £30-£35 for 500 rounds of subsonic ammo dont bother with High Velocity rounds in a .22 Rimfire. Hope this is of some help Phil.

thankyou for ypur reply. :)

i was wondering though if it was okay to join a club so that i can learn to shoot properly and then when i get land permission use it for vermin control? if i can do this do i write it on the fac when it asks for weapon application?

as pipmoff said, you need land to shoot on first,or be a member of a club, for a while, they have a probation period i think at most clubs though, and yep you have to put your permision on your aplication, allso cant go wrong with a cz 452 .22,as acurate any one can shoot, cheap to buy and cheap to run on subsonic,s,16" barrel is nice and short, spot on for out the 4x4 window, and shoots spot on,nice and light, and solid as you can get, well thats my opionion, dont know what all the bunnies think, well not a lot now, they all pies, atb ian
