It certainly ain't all down to what you put into the dog,i've put loads of work and more patients than a lot of folk on here and mine ain't got what it takes to take a rabbit off a hedge, pull ups well before he reaches it.He's 2 in less than a month and can't ever see him sorting it any other way, even does it in day time i've seen him watch countless of things at the bottom of ditches, just in hedges and he will just watch them.Good nose on him and good hunting up but thats no good when he just wont hit them in cover.Best of luck to you if yours works for you.

i had a line bred collie cross do that, he wouldnt run rabbits if he thought he couldnt catch them, pain in the arse on some spots as the rabbits would run towards netting or walls and bounce back, my uncles dogs caught loads this way as my dog wouldnt try for them.

its hard work owning a dog and watching it only run rabbits that are out in the open or it thought it could catch.another spot all the warrens were flooded and the rabbits were avoiding going to ground and so ran like pet rabbits but still this collie cross would try until they were 50 yrds or more from the hedge, a mates tiny whippet cross got a load that week and my dog got only two runs.

you can breed two good dogs together and get shit! everyone nos that iv seen some good hancock dogs and iv seen some hit ones same as saluki xs you get good ones and you get bad ones and they can be from the same line and bull xs theres game ones and theres ones that turn there nose on a lousy fox and iv seen pedigree whippets kill them but PITBULL xs cur on them! so giv hancock a break hes into his agillity and hes breeding a few dogs id say good luck to him because to me a dogs gotta earn his kennel and iv seen some hancock dogs that id have in my yard no doupt about it iv had worse but once a dog runs out of chances time to tie it up out side police station and get a new one

i have a hancock first cross billy clinton x white pearl. i would not get another one . he allways pulls up short approaching hedges and he allways opens up on hares. he is too hyper he allways wants to run off.

why did i get a hancock , because i met the owner of white pearl at a coursing meet in yorkshire and went to linconshire with him when he entered her in the benoir a 32 dog stake and she won it.she was a proper greyhound very game with loads of stamina the owner retired and gave white pearl to hancock {after she had escaped twice, ran herself nearly to death on the local hares and once i think she killed a sheep]. i think she also killed his parrot.when she ran in the benoir after her second course, i ran after her and found her in a wood eating a hare she had run her course then ran anothe r hare and killed it.

do not get me wrong my dog has his moments i would never get rid of a dog , i picked him . but i would never get another hancock. regards martin

my uncle had one of the earlyer lurchers bred from JLs bitch and a hancock dog, he was rough coated and a nasty b*****d.his litter brother was smooth and went to a guy in goole and was a good all round dog and ran hares against some good dogs.

got knocked down by a police car, this was about 87,88

my son took my dog billy onto a local estate with some lads with saluki crosses , a hare got up all the dogs set off , the couple of saluki crosses came back after a while but not billy so they sparked up their cigs and sat down waiting , billy goes flying past still after the hare into the distance. when they had finished the fags here comes billy carrying the hare back. he is a good dog just does your head in when lamping pulling up short and opening up. i am doing a lot more ferreting now and he is getting the idea of getting stuck into hedges . was great ferreting yesterday , ran smack into a tree chasing a rabbit and just bounced off , it would of killed a whippet. another trick he does when i ve been running him next to the mountain bike and hes as fit as f**k he, he will just run off on mission for an hour or so killing spree... i lost him for an hour an half last week where i shouldnt have been as well, i thought it was the last i would see him . i took the terrier home went back in the car and waited for him from where he set off from or where i slipped him from..eventually after 1 1/2 hour he came back out of the darkness wagging his tail and jumped in the car ... h es a nutter like white pearl. i was so releived when he came back. martin
