Guest Leveller
Welcome to the site mate I haven't visited here for a while I've had loads of stuff to do in the real world It's always good to see fellow hunters using the same dogs but living miles apart. I have three Teckels and I'll tell you a bit about what mine do..................... One is nine years old she hunted for her whole life as part of a pack of rabbithounds and has come to me to retire she isn't an earthdog but will go to ground occasionally she is the Lurchers right hand for flushing from cover and will hunt a line in her own right speaking all the way she will kill rabbits when she gets the oppertunity and althought she's the oldest she is the fastest and can cover a lot of ground very quickly when the right stuff is in front of her. I'll tell you about the others when I have some more time Quote Link to post
hopelander 0
these look great little dogs but do they have any sort of hereditary weakness? also do they mix ok with dogs outside their own pack Quote Link to post
waidmann 105
having recently returned to england from an 18 year stint in germany, where i spent every available bit of spare time hunting/gamekeeping i can only say that the dachshund is one of the finest all rounders i have had the pleasure to own. on fox, badger(hence the name dachs=badger. hund =hound/dog) and raccoon (to ground) a hardy little dog with plenty of balls. an eccellent companion in the high/ground seat( early warning system for all game!!!) and when the shot has been fired you have an eccellent tracker for any follow up, limited only by his short legs!!( not for speedy pursuit ) which brings me to driven game( boar, roe, fallow and red deer) usually in large wooded area's. where a mix of terriers and teckel( the name of the working dachshound) which are loud in the chase( a german phrase) will give you prior warning of advancing game. add to that retrieving of small game and an excellant character!!! for those who read german try the "deutsche teckel club e.v" for information. anybody wanting a puppy from germany can be helped by me ( contact to breeders and translation) finally they are charming little dogs! waidmann 105
for the rabbit warren they use the "kaninchen teckel" (rabbit) which are dwarves. who by no means are too small for work on fox.indeed they must prove they are able and willing to be put forward for breeding. Quote Link to post
