manipulus 4
if i was after a digging dog i'd go for a terrier alright but as an all rounder i think they'd handy. something with voice that will hunt a trail like a hound and will follow a fox to ground and work thick cover something tempting about that. i'd defo consider one in the future. I think they retail at around 500 sheets What cost £500? Per teckel pup in the uk and thats cheap often £650 mate That price not too much! Realy price 1000-1500€ in europe. help me out mate what does that work out as in pounds ? cca 815-1220 pounds Quote Link to post

john hubery 9
russell, some owner have a price structure of £650 down over, but there are lads out there who work there teckels and are not looking to make big buck and would like to see these cracking little hound made more popular, instead of being keep by a few that are trying to keep a closed shop, which can only be detremental to the breed, the folk working these dog and bringing new blood into the country, and I mean working blood it can only be better for the breed, not wanting to slag any one off, but I would hate for them to go the same way as the plummer terrier, which would not take long, these hounds should be worked and enjoyed not jelously gaurded by a few gaurdians of the breed, and let go at prices that limit ownership, and I dont want to hear "how if the price is kept up then only people that realy want to own on will by them and they wont be getting passed from owner to owner ect" if you look in the for sale ads of your local paper just how many KC reg young dog do you see being offered to new homes at a fraction of there real price that the owner only 3 or 4 months before have payed up to a grand for, I bought my teckel bitch for only £300 and she came from working stock imported from germany and belguim Quote Link to post

Without a central register and point of contact how will lads who want one know where to get one from? You can import all the teckels you want but without someone (the teckel society) keeping their pedigree and registering the litters, it descends into hit and miss and opens it up to charlatans and puppy peddlars (passing off hybrids or KC dachshunds, or rescues or something else) I advocate the Teckel society, yes the going rate for Cat A (pure imported working stock) Teckels is between £500-£650, but the society is about a stud register first and foremost and allows people to know they are getting working strain dogs and not just a look a like dog! However its always teh same with economic issues, supply and demand , whilst there are only a few the price is high....the more they are the cheaper they become! Quote Link to post

Guest ragumup
I don't know much about the breed (although i know someone who has a few like you from German working strain) i know no ones saying they are good earth dogs but even if they were good earth dogs and were £100 each and had longer legs to catch rats easy-er AND even FOR bushing /tracking blood scents etc i would worry about the shape normally i would say a long back adds weight to a terrier but a REALLY long back like teckels have is a WEAK back............... PS john i brought one of your triple boxes and found them excellent quality you would have to add ten inches to the width mind Quote Link to post
john hubery 9
Compo, you and myself will have to agree to disagree on this one, I dont want to hijack this man exellent thread any more, we both have our own opinions on this and Im sure in ten years time we will still both be sticking to our guns Quote Link to post

We both love teckels and as i have a young dog hound...if and when you feel like breeding from yours you can use him if he proves himself as i am sure he will do being all working lines behind him, german import mostly and some from the Ryeford chase pack Here's a clip...its been on here before, its a bloke in Norway with a rifle and a teckel!
