dislocated leg-Toggle surgery?

Recommended Posts

Kye’s colored terrier Agro was run over by a car 3 months ago. The dog was basically unharmed except for a dislocated rear leg. Our vet re-located it (is that a word?) but it popped out again a couple of days later when he was in too-small of a crate, so he re-located it, bandaged it up so the leg was held up against his body, and we completely restricted the dogs movements from crate to short leash for 4 weeks until the week after the bandage wrap came off. Then he was started slow to strengthen and get him back into shape for digging. This past weekend Kye & FR went up to Iowa for some barn hunting and the dog had 9 coon no problem, on the 10th at an odd angle under a floorboard/beam the dog re-dislocated it again. Took him to a vet who popped it back in and suggested something called a “Toggle†surgery … anyone have any experience with that sort of thing? The vet said there is an 80% likelihood it would happen again without the surgery, and a 30% likelihood it would happen with it. The dog has been a good one for Kye and he'd like to keep the dog AND be able to work him in future, but he's perfectly willing to let the dog sit out the rest of this season to fully recoup.

my patterdale got run over by a car when she was 6..took her streight to vet and they re located it..we braught her home to lay her in front of fire and before we had time to blink, shed wriggled outa the old mans arms and tryd to run to the other terrier, unfortunatley unlodging her leg from the hip streight away again...back to the vet, re located for second time, hadnt left the surgery....out again, the bitch wouldnt stay still..vet said the only thing for it was this toggle surgery...cost us 750 in all, but shes 15 now and still with us, slowed her right down after the op but worth every penny... hope this helps...
