Jaggsy 25
Hello all, what is the best way to deter or unsettle wigeon that have come here for the winter months? They are beginning to land in numbers on a flat grass track around a lake and i've been asked to disuade them, the problem is i cant be there every day so shooting is only an option while i'm actually on site, are there any other tried and trusted methods i could employ? thanks in advance
blackdug 90
let someone else shoot it and in return get them to give you lets say some shooting at woodpigeon at another time of the year

Jaggsy 25
The option of getting other people on site is a 'no-go' (i'd already considered it) any other wigeon disrupting methods that anyone knows of

Jaggsy 25
Ok... if it was possible to sub the work out i would have already done so, it isn't, and the decision isn't mine to make. So back to the original thread.. what are the best methods to deter wigeon besides shooting, any help greatly appreciated TIA
Cornio 0
They're pretty wary birds, maybe a few strings of rookies about the place might do it.

Cornio 0
Get to your nearest agricultural supplier and buy a couple of boxfuls. They come in strings of 12 so you get 6 hours with a rookie going off every 1/2 hour. I suppose you could fuse 2 strings together to get a 12 hour burn. Here's one site that sells them - http://www.portek.co.uk/blackpantherbang.html Just stumbled across another site that do something totally different but it looks bloody good - http://www.birdscaring.co.uk/?gclid=CL28rO...CFQoi3godQ1uwDA Edited November 27, 2008 by Cornio

claybusers al 9
if you go down the banger route hang them inside a metal drum from a tree it acts as an amplifier also try old cd's dangling on fishing line or if practical video tape flapping around all work well

Jaggsy 25
Thanks for those tips... thing is its a racecourse so a lot of methods i wouldn't be able to use, i once read that pegging wire a couple of inches off the ground would stop ducks from grazing the grass as they cant climb over it.
