I go all day, but always have my ferrets out and in the box again for around 3, if you get a lay up anytime after that, the light falls very quick, you dont want to have a ferret stuck down a warren in the dark.

that all depends on weather this will be a 5 minute wonder, or how much you value your ferts, or respect for your quarry :hmm:

most ferreters would not want to leave an injured or dead rabbit underground, as the whole point of ferreting, is to catch rabbits, without a locator, you'll never know whats been left behind, as your simply wait for the ferret to emerge.

having a locator means if a fert hasent shown for a while, a position can be got of where it is underground, a group of us that ferret together, will often "mark" an area, even if the fert shows itself, and then dig down to retreave a rabbit,

also with the nights closing in now, a locator is a sure way of going home with all your ferts, its too easy to say, if you havent got a locator, pack up by 1pm, but most ferreters will know, you always want to do, just one more warren, and having to hang around on a fert with no collar, as its getting dark, is just asking for trouble

have respect for your quarry, and your ferrets, and get a locator, mk1 or mk3, whatever is available at the time, and to what you can afford

Yep exactly what Stubby has said. (apart from always wanting to do the last warren, i have to carry the buggers!)

Get a locater as soon as you can, (and a spade).

Anybody in there right mind would not want to leave a good ferret behind, or the bury's filled with corpses. ;)

For the little bit of ferreting I do nowadays I prefare mid morning. Too early and the rabbits are still sitting out, will see you and are harder to bolt.

As the boys said you'd want to be wrapping up early afternoon unless you know the burrows your doing very well.
