young_london_hunter 9
Hello, I'm new to this whole thing(Lurchers) and just wondering do you reckon you could use a pure greyhound for rabbiting ? Probably a stupid question but was just filling in gaps in my knowledge. Thanks Quote Link to post
scent 509
far from a stupid question pal ,i used to exercise a track greyhound for a lady that wasnt able to walk her .She never actually understood why i exercised the bitch mainly at night .I was actually out lamping the bitch 3 nights a week and caught good bags of bunnies, but she couldn last as long as a lurcher .Had some good sport though Quote Link to post
lofti 579
its not a stupid question mate, the right greyhound will catch rabbits day and night. Quote Link to post
young_london_hunter 9
okay what about a young rescue greyhound ? I reckon ive got better chances if my mum knows i'm rescuing one. Could you obedience train it ? Apaprently they have ernormous prey drives ? Quote Link to post

mackem 26,616
I had a rescue greyhound for three months, her most memorable catches included my polecat hob next doors cat and a sheep very fast, caught rabbits with ease Quote Link to post
sniper 30
i think greyhounds should be good rabbit catchers...they are fast enough and a fair strike rate.....cheers Quote Link to post
young_london_hunter 9
would traiing be a big problem ? Quote Link to post
stormrider8 59
I used to lamp greyhounds every now and then, it used to get them race fit very quickly! But you always risked the chance of injury. I have only had three of them but they all had very high prey drives and would kill almost anything if they got the chance!! Saw a small bitch once kill a cocker type dog! Quote Link to post
young_london_hunter 9
wats their stamina like ? Quote Link to post
stormrider8 59
wats their stamina like ? I never lamped them hard enough to find out mate as they were racers. They wern't really trained to lamp properly, if they missed the first catch they used to do laps of the field!! Was a nightmare gettin them back, but they very rarely missed. Quote Link to post
