Fat-Ferret 857
My ferrets live in an outdoor hutch, 2 floors with a large entrance into the nest box, With the severe wind & rain over the last few days, I couldnt get the hutch moved to an area sheltered from the wind and rain, and with the large nest box entrance, I thought the ferrets would be freezing with the elements...I made the entrance hole smaller with a new square of ply over it with a smaller hole, but they dragged all there bedding to the bottom floor & slept there, I went out this moring & they where all curled up on the bottom floor with the wind & rain hammering in at them & the sawdust blowing everywhere I couldnt let them sleep like that, so I moved the whole thing into my shed & gave them new bedding & a little warm water in a dish to heat them, I know indoors wouldnt be great, but Ive left the window open a little to the keep air fresh & theres plenty of light for them...does this seem ok, or would they be fine outside? they just looked freezing!! I just checked them tonight for the last time & they where all stretched out on the bottom floor looking very relaxed like the lions on BBC wildlife programmes!! Quote Link to post

Coatesy900 0
they arnt daft mate, if they are cold enough they will drag it all back into the nest box again. They would only have dragged it all out in the first place if it was too hot. Quote Link to post
festa 206
Cold doesn't worry ferrets mate but heat can kill them . like the man said its not the cold you need to worry about mate mine go into the shed every winter but come spring back outside on the north side of the house (more shade) and on hot days they go in the run i made with a mist system on a timer gary Quote Link to post
stubby 175
some people can be a bit over cautious with there ferrets, but as already said, if they were cold, they'd go back in, I have a large court, both inside and outside areas, all 15 still sleep outside, body warmth and all that, Im sure they know better than me Quote Link to post
droid 11
I agree with the above. Ferrets are pretty good at coping with cold. Just make sure they keep dry....cold and damp is not good. Quote Link to post
wasp 0
Well thats a bugger the ferrets in the court won't be wanting that new nice warm tunnel hammock i've made for them eh stubby? lol  Quote Link to post

The one 8,463
A couple of weeks ago i thought my ferret's might need a bit extra comfort so i cleand out the nest box put a good couple of inches of shaving down then filled it with shredded paper ,all the shredded paper got tossed out into the run and there just sleeping on the shaving same as usual ,They all sleep in a heap but if it gets to hot one hob will sleep out in the run and it doesn't bother him Quote Link to post
