old dog 210
weather was awful, but scent was good, found their first fox they run him well considering the amount of water that was on the land,i managed to catch up with them after 45 minutes, only to find the farmers cows chasing the hounds out of their field that was he end of that hunt. The next one they found was short and sweet running him out of the wood across a field marking him to ground in the corner of a thick hedge, had some photo's for you.The next one they started off well on him, then he started running the streams which made the hounds check, getting further away each time, they ended up dragging to a big old place which was to late in the day to enter a terrier last time we run one in there we went down 8ft,at one point we did have a mark at 12ft,He's there for another day. Dave. yea dave started last week on a wednesday up on the mountain,we'll have another 2 weeks up there just hounds and some boy's will bring they're lurchers, its good for the young hounds but in fairness they are running well up in the pack, they run one in sunday and the 3 pups were marking as good as the older hounds,I've got 10 to enter next year they're 8 months old now, don't think i'll have any problems with them, they are hunting mad now.The weight is coming off them now, they pushing they're quarry harder terrierman alot happier Quote Link to post
Dave C 63
Good to hear old dog, pleased you have so many young hounds doing well, do you have any to retire next year as 10 sounds alot to add in 1 season (not that i know much about it), or is it your plan to increase the pack that much. Dave. Quote Link to post

Dave. I moved a few old hounds on the begining of the season to a mate of mine,I also bred out to get different blood in the kennels about 2 seasons ago,out of that mating i keep 7 back for myself there is 1 left,i will not be going to that pack again,so this year i covered 2 bitches with my own dogs, these 2 dogs were the only ones i could use that were not closely related to the bitches.Out of these pups will give me another change of line, still close but not going inbreeding, the 3 young bitches i've had this season i dare say will come into the breeding programme after they have had 2 seasons under they're belt, cheers dave Quote Link to post
