Right, I seem to have hit a few nerves regarding the splendid organisation which looks after the welfare of our four legged friends i.e the Kennel Club. Some people on here won't see a bad word spoken regarding said organisation. me, I'd see them shut down tomorrow. They are nothing but a money making scheme to all involved. They don't help the breeding or the welfare of any animals that come under their umbrella. Now, a lot of breeders make a lot of money from producing puppys with papers even if the said animal is bred from close relations and will suffer a life time of problems because of it.

Now do you think the kennel Club is good for dogs or not?

I agree the KC is a bad thing for dogs in the main.

And yes SOME KC whippets are a travesty, but to say all KC bred whippets are to be avoided is rubbish.

Laguna, Nimrodel, Shalfeet etc all excelled in the coursing field. These KC breeders bred their dogs for the purpose they were intended for.

And just for the record my last two whippets were not KC bred (although pure) and no I'm not a puppy breeder. And the reason I mentioned your 14 posts within one day ( i see it's now 26) of joining is that I've seen it all before, people joining this site and then stirring shit.

All the best

Thanks for that reply Sighthound I respect your answer. As for my level of posts it's down to me just finding the site and being over zealous nothing more nothing less. Aye, you've probably noticed I like a good debate but surely that's the reason for these forums? BTW, I've never owned a whippet although I reckon I'd like to at some stage so I bow to your superiour knowledge on that front. I just don't like the KC I'm afraid and that's the only reason I posted a reply on the matter. I'm a lurcher man, a lover of the old mongrel. BTW, I noticed you looked at my profile, getting worried were we lol ;)

The KC are money grabbing :censored: but at least if you get a kc reg dog you can see the lines and decide whether you want them lines or not, me and my family have had run ins with a certain someone from the kc though and are mongrel lovers as well with peds, but like I said at least you know where you dog comes from, when you get a puppy without papers you have to rely on the honesty of the breeders, I wonder what you think of dog lovers reg though? they only go up to the great grandparents though, and are only for pets not show. And you can even register crosses with DLRC

No mate i dont any dog should be bred with its good health a priority, they should be bred to a standard that its conformation should be that of their ancestors who were bred for and to work, if the goverment wants to ban something dog related it should be to ban the wankers - wankresses who breed with no respect for the canine's health or wellbeing but £££ only they should make it a priority to try and breed any k9 to a standard of a hundred years or more ago.

Thats what I think, I know someone with working cocker's though who was actually kicked off a cocker spaniel forum as hers were not real cocker's :o We have had show standard GSDs and pups nicked off us after we got them after the breeder was going to put them down for not conforming to the standard well enough. I also think that every standard for a dog should be from its country of origin if they do need a standard, but some of the standards warrant the owners shooting, and don't even get me started on the British bull dogs.

I do agree. Its gotten out of hand, but in the end its down to the breeders. Good breeders like Ed Frawley for example who breeds working GSD's and Malinois will always have good healthy dogs.

Show breeders have really f*cked up a lot of dogs. Its the inside dealing, nepotism and snobbery that really gets to me.

What was a Springer Spaniel or German Shepherd bred to do? Work! Not to stand there and look pretty. No way would I ever get a show bred GSD.

You should see the American bred Springer Spaniels, oh my god...they are so perfect. I bet they can't work for sh*t.

American bred GSD's and Dobermans are just a disaster. Absolute disaster.

Closed registries to new Country of Origin imports, they are a waste of space. They have completely lost direction.

Breed clubs IMO are equally to blame.

Unfortunately many of the coursing/racing/trialing clubs require KC registration for dogs participating in there activities.
