RAMCAM 4
What is the expanding pellet in .177 calibre. Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
they dont realy expand unless hitting something solid, if its for rats close ranch then try the h point. accurate placement is better then hitting power in my view Quote Link to post

hiho 5
RWS superhollowpoints Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Don't know but HP is what you want..you may need to try different sorts. Also remember it makes a major difference what it hits, at what angle and what speed as to how it expands! 12ft lb HP pellets are not well know for doing a great job of expanding, they are also not very accurate on the whole either! Now...a nice soft 40g Sub Sonic Lead HP .22LR can end up looking like a mushroom and do massive penetration damage! Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
yu might buckle a skirt a bit at 12fps on flesh....might! Quote Link to post
Molie1337 35
Ghillies surely you mean Ft/lbs not fps ? Ramcam, try norica killer pellets, they have a star shaped hollow point rather than round, allways wanted to try them for hunting but they only do .177, and ive only got .22, cant be doing with the "girly calibre", plus ive got fingers like sausages so the bigger pellet is harder 2 drop! got any permission yet ? Grim Reaper 1
I have found that an RWS SuperDome in .177 works well when put into the breech arse about face? When fired, the arse-end of the pellet hits the target first of all. It makes for the mother of all hollow-points! Always worked well for me at the closer ranges, like? Regards, Grim. Is it April 1st already.....Grim...what are you doing, the skirt helps to seal the barrel and keep the power up, extra uneven barrel contact this way, flight pattern a joke, pellet almost guaranteed to tumble, and what's the accuracy like 6" out of the barrel!! Not to be recommended in any way!! Other than that probably great!! Quote Link to post

Other than that probably great!! there was an article in airgunner or something which did a test of loads of hollow point (and backwards pellets) and im pretty sure they found the backwards superdome fairly accurate, maybe im dreaming though! dont knock it till youve tried it!! Not to be recommended in any way!! Other than that probably great!! Deker old buddy, how it pleases me so to see you chuckle 5 little words . . . . . . "Oh, shut up, you tart!" But seriously though, I have found that to be the case mate, truth be told, albeit mostly on non living static type targets I admit - with the odd exception being the occasional close range (5-10 yard) rat here and there around the garden. . . . with good results on pellet expansion, and thereby wound extent and shock level? Having said that, like i say, i haven't tried it on living quarry such as rabbit, crow, maggie or owt else - just the odd rat. Best regards, Grim. Quote Link to post

AA feilds daystate jsb heavies for a light pellet i was surprised how good the bisley long range golds were on rats... accupells...all round nosed (in .177) in .22 i used AA feilds very efectivly, daystates were ok... but the bisley long range golds came good on rats again after sufferin the rats jumping the .22 pellet, basic routine was... wap a few heads (bod shots in .22 were a give up bothering), then wappp! one hell of a bod shot?? rat bowls over screaming and then runs off... hmmm go and check the zero, it's on so continue. next rat, WHUAAAAP hell of a bod shot again... re checke the zero.. on my way back to the rat spots i spot a rat, lift the gun and squeze the trigger and WHAAAP real screemer!!! but hold on..the safety was on!! so just to see (on the same rat 3 yards up) i lift and squeeze (catch still ON) and blow me if the thing stamps the floor and bowls over screeming.... ok, thats just one rat so i go to the next, same thing...this time i watch as the pellet apears, just before it gets there the rat lifts it foot, stamps THEN evades the pellet and bowls over screaming, thats two diferent rats!! it gets worse!!! Miss Magestic turns up...what i presume is the 'queen rat' on acount of the personal escourt of body gaurds, she's like 3-4 times bigger (looks like a beaver on NV lol..big any how) and the rest go quiet and await her...hmmmm? weird? As she woddles down the wire wapp! dropped dead np.. two of the three body gaurds stood their ground and thwap one of those fell, the other one stood there ready to have a go (number three legged it after the first twang lol)...twannng goes the falcon, and the thing just stood there, as the pellet arived it just pulled its head out the way and turned back at me!... another shot but this time it not only pulls its head out the way but it keeps its eye on me at the same time!!... jumps to the floor, and comes out by a bin towards me, looks up at me soooo twang goes the folcon, this time it pulled its face back and 'went around the pellet'!!....i think that one was a bit too close it legged it lol. all that night i had superb body shot's, foot slap's rat screems summut awful...and runs off!... out came the bisley long rang golds..loads lighter loads faster... the rats had a bad night that night lol... they seriously waited for the AA feilds lifting their foot but oops..it's load faster and dead lol. wander why i use .177.........(and round nosed pellets.. ) Edited November 25, 2008 by ghillies Quote Link to post
8shot 192
for rats i use flat headed pellets makes a nice sound when they hit Quote Link to post
