The one 8,456
Go to the back of the gate throw your bottom line under the gate (so your choosen prey runs on your net ) and put your top line along the bottom or second bottom spar of the gate and you can use small stones to hold it there .Or use it as a short long net on a couple of poles or nettle stalks etc to hold it up .Thats the basics mate theres loads of other ways Quote Link to post
JordKil 0
Thanks mate I was wondering if it could a short long net. will.f11 24
just put a couple poles on it mate, for just a couple poles, it might be an idea to buy some fibreglass ones from magnum traps or Molecatcher. they are expensive but not so when all you need is about 3 poles. good luck mate and you might be able to fix it on poles. makes it easy and easier to carry aswell. Guest jbswildlife
gate netting is mainly designed at hare's, so the mesh size needs to be 3" the lenght needs to be over 14yds as most gates are that size. depth I work with 25-30 squares to give a good belly. use to sticks one each at the gate posts, tightly pushed in at a 45 degree angle. reason for this is when the hare hits the net slips of the pegs and purses. Netter 0
I recently bought an 18 yard gate net and Im confused as how to set it up as I cannot find instructions anywhere. Does anyone have any pics of one set up? or advice on how to set it up? Thanks Jordan If you bought it fron Ebay or suchlike, they are rigged like miniature long nets, so should be used the same, but if it is one of those there isn't enough depth in the net for use for hares really. badgeroy 3
Many years ago when i first started ferreting i bought a couple of gate nets but did'nt know how to use them, this particular day we saw a couple of rabbits behind an old pig sty so i set up the gate net while my mate went round the other side to drive the rabbits, as said i did'nt really know how to set them, one of the rabbits came steaming round the back of the sty and hit the net but, i had set it tight between the two poles and as the rabbit hit the net it just catapulted back where it came from must have wondered what happened, i could hardly stand for laughing.
