Fat-Ferret 857
One of the 2 kits I kept for myself from this year was working well on the first 2/3 days out, recently she has began skulking down the hole very badly & can only be drawn out with a rabbit & then grabbed ver quickly, Its getting so bad I didnt work her at all las saturday after the first set of holes as I had no rabbit to get her out and it took almost half an hour of messing....Is there any cure for this, I have tried to let her come well clear of the hole before lifing her, but she takes off running down again as soon as I approach near her, I was thinking of just letting her go completely until she comes out of her own will, But this could take a long time and wastes usually the one days ferreting I get messing about like this Quote Link to post
will.f11 24
just patience mate, take her out solely to train her up. Not for rabbits. Find a nice small easy warren, and then go and put her down, just put your fist slowly towards it and let it sniff it, should build up the trust if you work hard at it. I have an albino which is doing it a bit, but getting better each time so im not worried Quote Link to post

Fat-Ferret 857
you could try getting abit of pipe about 4 ft long and practice with her comeing in an out I have been doing that since she started skulking, I will just keep at it, I think what the other guy said as well about me snatching at it is the problem, she maybe done it a time or two & me grabbing at it made the problem worse Quote Link to post

stealthy1 3,964
Maybe its been beat-up quite bad underground, think it just needs confidence building up, running the warrens takes its toll sometimes, more so if you start them to young, also try putting two ferrets down together. [/quot] She does seem quite a nervous ferret, The very first day she ever went into a hole she came running back out after about 5 minutes, squealing very loud, standing on her back legs and when I tried to lift her, she bit me very hard a few times and sprayed that SMELL that I only ever read of, so maybe that bit of a scare put her off since........? will.f11 24
your probably being a little 'over-grabby' just let her have a while longer, if not, shift on to a pet home Quote Link to post
