I think some of you are missing my point

say for instance you had moles digging up your garden , you would call out the moleman .therefore would you expect him (the moleman) to pay the customer for allowing him to remove the moles that are causing the nuisance.

wilf you said "really dont see the problem in paying for permission to enjoy your sport........most would think nothing of paying a couple of hundred quid for a day on a decent partridge shoot.......some pay much more for grouse or stalking.........clays will cost you £40 odd quid..........fishing anything from £20 to £500 for a club/syndicate.......lots more for a decent stretch of bank on a good salmon river."

Totally different ball game shooting game and catching Salmon,I am on about ferreting and letting your Hawk out

maybe getting the odd rabbit or 2

So what your saying akton is you dont enjoy your hunting? You just do people favours.

Usually, permission to shoot/ferret or whatever is free. There is mutual benefit in that the land owner loses some vermin, and the hunter gets to practice field craft and take away the bounty, paying only for the bullets or equipment. Now I don't know what a hawker would count as a good day out. So I am guessing that with a single bird, he will perhaps take four or five rabbits in a session, and need plenty of room to fly in daylight.

He is aware then, if my estimate is near right, that no significant impact will be made on the rabbit population, but he will have had a good day out.

For that, he is willing to pay a little for the use of the land. That's my take on this anyway, and I see no problem with it.

No I do get your point Akton, and its a fair point.....if someone employs a man to do a job then he entitled to get paid...........on the other hand, if someone choses to pay for the rights on some land, then that is also there choice.

There are millions of acres to go at in this country........and I really dont think one will have a major impact on the other.

I get your point and I know what your saying but if someone wants to pay to ensure they have somewhere to work there animals then thats their perogitive. I don't pay but if someone offered me decent ground for a small fee then I'd pay.

If the Landowner is prepared to leave a corner of his ground with the certainty of a couple of rabbits on it, then why not a small payment. You would pay for the certainty of partridge or Pheasant. I did say a small payment.

If you have permission to take vermin with ferrets and nets. then that is pest control and it swings the other way.

If you can lamp rabbits and work a dog. Then keep your nose clean and make sure the Landowner get a cut of what is on offer. Only don't offer him a bit of lamb.

Where are all of the Falconers, get your twopence in.

i would pay and wouldnt mind doing so , i would even do some 3 work for the farmer as well if he needed help as a sign of respect. the farmers doing the hunter the favour in this day and age , and it also keep the police of your back when your driving to your permision . ;)

OK so this weekend any of you turn up for a days ferreting on permission you've had for sometime, the farmer says "Sorry lads a guy wants to fly his hawk on here and hes paying me to do what you've been doing for years"

How would you feel about this thread then? :hmm:

Anyone would be gutted, but it gives you a clear choice.........put your hand in your pocket or seek other free permission.

I wouldnt let anyone on to the lakes to fish for free when other lads are paying money to do the same......they pay like everyone else or feck off.

If lads are doing a very good job and have a good realationship with the farmers, then I dont think others offering to pay would come into it.......ol farm boy will allways stick with the devil he knows ;)

True WILF you have to look at what you value, the farmer sees that he has a choice, your both doing the same job but ones putting a few quid in his pocket

I would nt like it but the estate is satisfied with what we're doing for them and reccomending ourselves to neighbouring landowners
