jasper65 6
Just been out today with the ferrets. one had the older type MK3 collar on and the other the MK3M! Its probably me being a Numpty but the new collar seemed to be intermiten compared to the older one . I pinpointed the ferret showing 4 1/2 foot but when I sweep the Locator slighly away it stops for a sec or two and then kicks in again, also when I come back over the top of the ferret again it blips away for a few seconds and then stops, I then sweep back around the area and nothing! then come back to where the ferret had killed and it works again then stops. this could be me but the older collar which seems to have a slower pulse seemed to work fine... If anyone else is useing them could they give me the run down if not on the forum by PM? I'm not saying the collar is faulty but for some reason I was loseing my signal totaly ... cheers Jasper Quote Link to post

stubby 175
how sure can you be, that the fert had a rabbit in a stop end, but kept wandering back and fourth a few feet, giving you the intermitant signal? have you tried the collar in the garden? Quote Link to post
pointer28 1
:o Oh Christ, just what I need to be hearing after splashing out nearly 200 notes on a brand new Mk3 m with 2 collars. Quote Link to post

I have been trying it in the Garden and utility room since coming home stubby! if I hold the Locator say around 2ft straight above the collar I get a good continuouse strong signal, if I then move the Locator up in say 4 inch segments still staying directly above! it misses for a sec or two and then continues to blip eeach time it is moved upwards, sometimes it stops totaly before finally kicking in again.... donk 12
Ive not used the new locators at all, mainly cos ive been off the scene for a few years and i had to get rid of my stinkers. But ive used the old locator for a few years with no problems. All i hear about the new locators is not very encouraging? I wont be buying a new locator until i get more ferrets, but even then i think i will stick with the old locators and collars until they are no good. Is there only one supplier of the new locators? Does anyone still make the old ones? Quote Link to post

R_Oldroyd 17
Hi All I have changed all my collars for the MK3M and they work fine for me. Everyones looking at the bad points so much these days about everything must be the crunch. They do have advantages like turning on and off while on the ferret. One massive advantage when using lots of ferrets. Save on batteries. They have a bigger battery and i think they last a lot longer. They screw together so i think they will be less likely to go down due to your ferret taking a dip. Leather collars, smooth surfaces easier to clean do i need to go on!!!!!!!!!!! There are lots of threads sayi8ng they are bulky but my jills work just the same as before. They do get snagged on purse nets but thats more so down to the cat bells i use. As for digging mine seem to pin point fine. Though i do have one collar that does do the intermitent !!!!!! thing you are talking about so you could have a duff collar. Cornio 0
I've never had any of the other locator boxes/collars and the mk3m is the first one I've owned, so I'm not in a position to compare. All I can say is that after using it, there has been no problems, the switch, like you say, is extremely useful, it's very accurate and the noise, which is a tad annoying, can be kept down with correct trimming of the pin-pointer. The collars are well made and totally waterproof and the battery life is quite long - 300hrs or so. After hearing about the old boxes, I reckon I've got the advantage with the mk3m. Issues have been raised over whether it works correctly or that the pin-pointer knob is not working, I reckon they're not using it correctly (workmen/tools? etc) - mine works fine. I know for a fact, that a few people I know personally, don't like change or, as they say, 'set in their ways' and aren't too welcoming of the advances in technology, in other words 'technophobic'. All that aside, I don't think anyone's got a choice now when it comes to buying a brand new locator. It's the mk3 or nothing. Edited November 20, 2008 by Cornio Quote Link to post

Just been out with a different MK3M today and its fine! it seems that perhaps the odd one's are intermiten that need sorting or tuning again by Deben... cheers Jasper Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
My MK2 packed up not long ago, buying MK3 with two collars from here tommorw, £175 for locator and two collars, not a bad deal, then see if they are better. Quote Link to post
FlashFerret 1
IMHO, the MK3M is a vast improvement. If you think you've got a problem, call Deben. They're pretty good on customer service. Quote Link to post
tobysleeper 0
Ive just bought a mk3 and tried it for the first time yesty.I had the same type of problem when testing it in the garden.i found that when i rethreaded the collar through the transmitter it caused the cap to unscrew slightly this gave an intermitent signal as the contacts on the batts werent up tight enough. so took the batts out and levered the contact up a fraction.its now working perfectly. mk 3 seems ok once you get the hang of it.took the instructions out with me just in case.Hope this helps Toby Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Tried the MK3 in the garden today, I think they are better than my MK2, hope to give it a good road testing next week, will know then. Quote Link to post
