Out tonight

Recommended Posts

Out tonight with Deker on one of my permissions. Got there and no sooner had we arrived than we saw a muntjac, not having shot one before I was keen to knock it over. So down it went... Off to a neighbour on the permission, gotta win friends and influence people (and with a bit of luck he'll do me a couple of steaks!). Silly me forgot to get a picture at the time of shooting, so the one below is at night, just before we handed the deer over. Credit to Deker for thinking of that one :)

Moving on, saw a rabbit which ran towards us, ending up with a 223 at 50 yards. Not much bunny left.

We carried on for a bit and saw countless roe deer. People on that permission (not the landowner, people with houses nearby) have moaned at me for shooting the deer, saying that there aren't many left, but we got to the mid-teens this evening with deer spotted, on a few hundred acres. And we didn't even walk all of it tonight....

Deker spotted a rabbit which swiftly met its end at the hands of a 22 magnum bullet. For a rifle which has had 29 rounds through it since he's had it, seems to be set up well enough to me! Shot was perfect, rabbit looked like it had been asked to play dead. Only found the exit hole when Deker said he thought he had blood on his hands, and please could I shine a light on him... :)

We'd all but done for the evening when we just had a quick peek in a field, and there was Charlie. We'd seen him earlier, but he scarpered before giving a safe shot. This time round we had to wait too, but he moved round the field and gave us a decent enough background, and then paused. Bang ... thud! Over he went, ranged to 169 yards. Odd though, as we walked over there was definitely movement. Thought I might have got the shot wrong but there was a bullet hole in his heart, a decent exit wound too. Deker's 22 mag finished the job from about 70 yards as we walked towards it.

And as it turned out, that was that. Good evening definitely, and my rifle's still in one piece - yay!! :)

A good night out Mr L & Deker :)

A few things in the bag, makes for interesting reading. Out of interest, how heavy would you say the Munti was?

I like the Venison from Muntjac, very tasty and tender IMO.

A good trip out

SS

Munty... bloody heavy ;)

on a more serious note, hard to tell tbh. 40lbs or so maybe? twice the fox anyway ,and he was a heavyweight. The one downer with being the one with the C/F is that you have to carry/drag the big stuff when you shoot it :D

A qulaity trip out chaps. That munty was a nice bonus, was she in the early stages of pregnancy? I've heard they are good eating (not had the pleasure yet :whistling: ) but a little harder to skin. A nice set up you have there and a good fox to boot.

I've not eaten muntjac yet, but had a call from the neighbour in question and I shall be getting a back leg once he's hung it and prepared it at his place, he has good facilities, being a retired country person. Can't wait!!

Not sure about the pregnancy, looks like it to me too tbh. All the money I spent on kit came together yesterday for sure, a rare moment tbh!!
