dogman89 0
i never realised losing a nail was such a big thing. i had my old dog in a park about 4 years ago and i got her to climb up one of the climbing frames and she ripped out about 4 toe nails, (there was lot of wee small holes on the frame) the vet just gave me something to wash it with and it only took a day or to before she was fine and out walking again Quote Link to post
Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
The alsation/grey ripped one out the 1st day we got on holiday, was well peeved. Took over a week before he was walking on it right. S'pose all dogs are different but if you're working or racing it needs to be 100% healed Quote Link to post
whip x grey 276
dogs normally walk ok afterwards,,,and seem to want to run about within a few days,,,,,,but if they are used for hunting or racing,,,,they have to be strong enough to handle the pressure,,,,,,also, u have to watch they are growing in correctly,,,i have heard storys somtimes they will grow upwards, thou thats not ever happened to my dog,s when new toe nail is growing in, watch for in perfections such as brusing and cracks in new toe nail,,,,wait till they almost grow out, or the same thing can re ocurr,,,( that,s only adivse if the dog runs hard and stand,s the risk of putting alot of presure on toe nail....... i.e racing or hunting) Edited November 20, 2008 by whip x grey Quote Link to post
