socks 32,253
well i took tegan up to the dales to test her on some different terrain and rabbits to see how she whent ... well i couldnt have been happier and she worked the land and game as if she was born and bred in the dales .... i knew the dog had done well one our hosts for the weekend turned to me and said .... aye ooop lad you can leave that little black bitch ooop ere with us lads she will do grand :laughbounce2: ... anyway here is the account of the trip .......... arrived deep in the dales at midnight on friday and true to form and good old northern hospitality the lads had kept the pub open so we could get some liquid refreshment after our ardouse trip ooooop north ... 2 pints later and the dogs and ferrets watered and fed it was time for some sleep ready for a full breakfast and an early start ...... we started by going up and up and up and up some more to the top of the mountain that i was told holdes a fair few rabbits ... when we eventually got to our destination i couldnt believe the amount of rabbits that were just running around everywhere and paid no attention to us at all ... i counted at least 30+ rabbits disapeer into the first warren .... myself and chicky run out our long nets and entered the ferrets ... it wasnt long before the action started with rabbits flying into the longnets and the dogs grabbing a good number before they even had a chance to get tangled ... within around 15 minuets we had 27 rabbits accounted for and we moved on to the next warren ... this one had even more rabbits running around but they were a little sticky and the ferrets had to work hard to push them out and we ended up with the inevetable dig of 4 foot .... as the bolting lulled i took the time to catch a few opertune rabbits ... i casted tegan off a 100 yards down the hill to some reed beds to hunt up and see if there was anything down there .... as soon as she got there i could tell there were rabbits about and within seconds a rabbit was out and away with tegan soon snapping it up and fetching it the 100 yards straight back to me ... i sent her back and forth 5 more times and put another hafl dozen bunnys in the bag ....... the rest of the day was more of the same with rabbits a plenty and the ferrets and dogs working well and filling the bag ... not one single rabbit was missed and we ended up with a 100 odd bunnys and a few grouse that didnt fly away quick enough ...... the next day was an early rise with a hangover and we decided to walk the dales and moors flushing hares for the dogs to retrieve ... again we had a good day with the dogs performing really well and adding more game to the bag ......... all in all i had a cracking weekend with tegan proving to me that she can come out of her comfort zone and produce the goods on different land and as i said earlyer the biggest complement to me was aother dog men willing to have your dog in their kennel ........ i have a few pics ... they are nothing special as i own a crappy little camera and i am shit at taking pics ......... THE BEAUTIFULL DALES ......... AN ESSENTIAL PART OF YOUR FERRETING KIT A 4X4 ....... SOME DEEP OLD WARRENS ........ TYSON DOING HIS JOB .......... THERE WERE SOME WET OLD WARRENS ...... FERRETING A SPECTATOR SPORT ......... PLENTY TO WATCH .......... ONE OF TEGANS CAST OUT CATCHES AND RETRIEVES ...... THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FERRETING DOG AND A DOGS THAT GOES FERRETING .. CONCENTRATION ... END OF THE DAY PIC ......... Quote Link to post
