Out with the terriers

Recommended Posts

Went out with the terriers last weekend to check some earths.

We started the morning down next to the stream, which on many cases basically always holds something. Put the terrier down and there we heard the baying, got the locator out and searched for the dog. Located him, went and got the spades and started to dig. got about 2 foot down and the baying stopped and he moved, charlies only gone and got past the dog and bolted out the hole unseen. Not a good start at all.

Moving onto the next earth, the terriers were working through some gauze bushes and as I look back saw a fox sneaking off over the hill, terriers soon caught scent of it and followed it on. Brought them back and went to the earth we were heading too. Put the dog back in and he had a good search round the place, but no one was home. Loads of signs that cubs had been here early this year though, lamb bones rabbit carcasses you name it it was there.

Moved on up the hill and on the way back the bitch started to mark an earth. Swapped the locator onto her and let her enter. Was quiet for about erm.. 10seconds and she was baying. Tied the dog to the fence and got locating, found the spot where she was and got digging, very shallow earth was this.

Forgot to say whilst digging down we covered the other exit holes with some grass sods. As we broke through we saw one sod bumping, I lifted slightly and this popped out.

Pulled the fox out and dispatched it, got a result afterall, the other disappointing earths. Enjoyable day though non the less.

I'm puzzled by the pics,, you're pulling a fox out with an uncollared unchained dog standing there watching you, how you manage that ??

I'm guessing the other terrier is in the hole, then there's the pic of the two dogs and you holding the fox, which one has the collar own.. I'm intrigued !!
