LONGNETTING

Recommended Posts

It takes plenty of daytime practice to run a hundred yard long net proficiently in the dark.I speak from 25years experience and quite a few tangled nets.Stupid things like buttons and zips can ruin a nights netting.Even your foot wear has to be none tangle, like wellies or lace hole boots.

I remember years ago going to net a wood about 15 miles from my house.I went with a guy who was supposed to know what he was doing  Any way he turned up with what you could just about call a longnet that was tied onto some hazel poles that would hold a house up.He had a barbour jacket on with a buckle belt and a pair of wellies with buckles :laugh:

I told him what would happen when he tries to set the net but he wouldnt listen. We walked the quarter mile to the first set and i told him to run his net out first  He didnt even get it off his back,it was tangled to hell in his belt buckle.I cut the net of there then he set off again. He got two poles out and the net got tangled in his welly buckles.By this time i was a bit cheesed off so i left him to untangle himself and set my 100yards of net out then beat the field in.I took 30plus rabbits from that drop no thanks to this lad(who had a reputation for being a master with the nets  )and he was still wrestling with his net.Needless to say i didnt go out with the nets with this fella again.

He knows who he is as he comes onto this site on occasions :laugh:
