tote 856
Decided to have a look out early doors tonight before the moon got up. Jimmy took Bob and my mate Tam brought his air rifle. The first field to be lamped was only small, barely an acre in size, the rabbits didn't hang about. They were quickly through the fence and into their buries in the bank behind the fence.Only one rabbit made the mistake of sitting on the bank infront of it's burie and Tam knocked it over with a nice head shot at 30 yards. The next field we walked through runs alongside a disused railway bank which is overgrown with trees and bushes. Tam shot 2 rabbits on this banking and 1 at the far side of the field with head shots.Bob had two slips in this field but missed both rabbits on the turns at the fence. We went into a stubble field next and again the rabbits were lamp shy,Tam shot the first one but it had signs of mixy and was a bit thin.He also shot the next one but it was up and running so Bob was slipped and made no mistake. The next rabbit was on the move and Bob was slipped again and was soon up behind it and picked it up in full flow. Bob had one more slip in this field and missed the rabbit then did what he's becoming famous for, fecking off across the field hunting it up. It didn't make any difference that Jimmy shouted and hollered at him he just did what he wanted. We walked up the farm lane to get to the next field,I had a shine over the hedge into a turnip field on our left and lit up a rabbit amongst the turnips.Tam knocked it over with a head shot,I walked down to the gate then out into the field but could not find the rabbit amongst the neeps. Bob had three runs in the next field and caught the third one, again there was plenty of rabbits about but they were lamp shy. Bob had two long runs in the next field but his turning let him down,he doesn't seem able to anticipate when the rabbits will turn as they run alongside the hedges. Two rabbits were taken out of the next field, one for Tam and one for Bob.Before we left this field Jimmy gutted the rabbits as the bag was getting heavy. We had only a couple of fields to go untill we were back at the car,Bob had another 7 runs in these 2 fields and only managed to pick up 2 rabbits and one of them was carrying an air rifle pellet. Most of his misses can be put down to his turning when a rabbit is going up and down a hedge or fence. He doesn't seem to be able to read what a rabbit is going to do next. When Bob caught his fourth rabbit tonight Jimmy informed Tam and I that it was Bob's 100th rabbit, with that in mind you'd have thought he'd be able to work them out by now. We ended up with 12 rabbits,6 each for Tam and Bob,it was 13 but I couldn't find the one Tam killed in the turnip field. Quote Link to post
