Big Cats

There was a guy banging on the farmers doors on one of my permissions last year, claiming to be special forces, carrying a military rifle. (described as SA80) been sent to eliminate a big cat in the Carse of Gowire. It was actualy my receptionist at work's husbands farm.

I happened to see the guy running round with a huge back pack, around the neighbouring farm later in the day, but didnt find out till work on the monday morning, what his purpose was. Very spooky. :icon_eek:

Never seen one, nor had the farmer, been foxing there, with lamp, in lambing season, never so much as a peep...

Given he banged on the door at 7.00am in the morning, and farmer was out the night before, he was told to do one....Surprisingly.

Me, I would have called the police, but that's retrospect now....

Theres been alot of conversations on here about them but i personally think they are out there as there were so many as pets upto 1979 then people have even come forward & said they released them so i think there there personally.

THeres quite alot of websites with information on the big cat sightings in the uk so have a good look through & if anyone wants to ever go out looking " Im IN"

Still think they are just the feral/wildcats. Sometimes they throw a black one out that everybody sees (cause it's black and stands out) The tom's reaching fox size is not uncommon, especially in the scottish highlands. These cats with nothing to scale themselves against would look big in the distance.

But i think one or two may have been slipped into the wild, i feel sorry for these animals.

the part of south wales i come from has had big cat sightings as far back as the mid 70's up until last year , every other house it seems has a lurcher , terrier or some hound of some kind , the valleys around me are devoid of rabbit, apart from a few pockets here and there , foxes are born lamp shy , most earths are checked and dug regular, yet the only people to see the big cats are townies out for their annual walk or people who you suspect are on some ilegal substance, no farmer, shooter or dogman who is in the country more than most as ever seen these mythical big cats , for years there was the tonmawr beast which they said was an OCELOT , an ocelot is a quite small spotted cat , but experts report seeing a large black cat , they found its lair , which me and a freind of mine established was a fox bury which had cubs in it . . they can film and make documenrtys about the most elusive british wildlife but no one can find any proof about these bi cats . please prove me wrong.

Another "Big Cat" thread, we must have one every month! This one is exactly the same, 5 pages of no conclusive PROOF of anything!!!

Ill say it again, there arent any, because with all the folk in the countryside, all the hunters, fishermen, walkers etc, somebody would have to have seen one and took a photo that either wasnt 20yrs old or too crap to make out.

Cats can look deceptive when they are out. Certain breeds and types can fool people. When is a Cat a big Cat? Is this s Big Cat? He now weighs 24lbs and is easily as tall as my Borders.

We all know that years ago some idiots released Cats from collection, those were the ones that WERE caught and captured!

Dawn, you come out with the same line every time. Proof!!!! there has been undeniable proof in the PAST that escapees/releases have happened with the corpses, swamp cats, jungle cats and leopard cats and a puma, maybe not as exciting as a leopard but the PROOF is there. BUT I have said there may be the odd cat, not a population. You say there aren't any, well I saw a puma nearly ten years ago and I KNOW what I saw, I used to work in the department responsible for DWA licensing and I work in the animal industry specialising in exotics so I know what a feral cat/dog/deer and a bin liner look like.

I agree though, there is a big cat thread at least once a month.........

Hi Simoman.

If you read my post I did say about 20yr old pictures not being proof of anything today!

I dont deny what you think you saw, Im saying there arent any, thats my opinion. All I want is somebody like yourself to go out and show me conclusive proof of these animals LIVING in our countryside. Practically everyone has a camera phone now, yet still nothing. Even the "odd one" would of been clearly photographed by now, surely? It alright critisizing my post saying there arent any, but there isnt anyone else including yourself that have any conclusive evidenc eto the contrary, is there? :)

Dont you find it strange that the worlds most elusive creatures are filmed for all to se, yet we cant even get ONE picture of a cat!

As far as domestic Cats go it is a big cat, and considering that the majority if not all of these"sightings" are of domestic Cats, I reckon its as big as any of them! :D

So they have to be black now too? :D

Well Dawn, i'm not even going to bother debating against you, as i can see you are a pretty negative small minded person, who must lead a pretty boring life.

I'm not being funny or callling any names, its just the way you come across.....And trying to have a convo with you would be pretty i guess.

well I've done all my training for years and years in a so called "hot spot" for big cats and covered miles and miles on foot, found a couple of folk who have gone "missing" in the area but as for big cats  , seen a few feral moggies and given them a very wide birth :icon_eek: (no weapon at the time) and the funniest thing I ever saw was a pair of whippets give chase after one into some woods do a handbrake turn and come charging back with the feckin cat chasing them
