first few weeks an open sight is a good starting point then move up to a scope.. a 4x20's well afordable, then go to a 4x40 if you can, if not dont worry just get a scope that suits your eye.. same with guns, if you dont quite get on with them then you wont keep your intrest which then bores your atention to detail.

have a look at this program, www.chairgun.com, the chairgun program it's self and the MDRF thing for scope ret calculating...(fluffy's pellet data base is a lot closer than the chairguns pellet data base..which is way out on some, spot on for others)

there's two ways to get on, one is set the sight see what happens, the other is do a bit of home work, both ways are valid so mater which way it's time in doing it that makes or breaks it.

try and find a gun club, try a few guns, then you'll know or least have an idia of whats what before you buy something you dont like.

oops edited in.... your 14, tecnicaly you cant legaly own or buy a gun..your parent's have to.

buy couple mags

airgun world

airgunner .

read through .. . . get knowledge ..

then decide what you want springer , pcp . if you go pcp you will need pump ,or bottle ... remember a bag for rifle

new or second hand ???

then try squeeze bit more dolla out ya parents l.o.l ..

my advise would be pcp just easier ...lower recoil if any ..

i had springers when i was younger and if at that time my dad had said what do you want i would have gone pcp ...... but he didnt and i had a hand me down ... was ok but boy it was loud when i fired it and it kicked like a donkey ...

nice light weight bsa ultra . is very good rifle and can out shoot alot of more expensive rifles ....

have you got land to shoot on ??????

or is it in the garden at moment ????

mate to be honest your not even old enough to use a air rifle let alone buy one... so anyone selling one i would advice you get parents concent,....

also you must not go on your own mate you neet to be with someone i believe over 21...

anyway

but anyway my aa s410 has got a little recoil but thats due to a different spring in it...

i would personally go for a pcp mate they are much better all round.

you would have to spend loads to get a good spring gun but to get a half deascent pcp your budget is fine..

go for the aa s400 mate

cheers

Jazz, no offence, but are you 100% lay obiding? i bet 99% of the air gunners on here were using air rifles on thier own before the correct age. I admit i did, and do. so step off your high horse mate as i dont think you are much older yourself. No offence to anyone intended

will take a chill pill mate.!!!!!!

i was just saying as i dont know if any of you know this but in swales... its been a year now since a young lad was killed( someone i knew) because he was messing around with a air rifle.

yes i know he shouldnt have been but the person who bought it for him is now facing prison charges as he was not a parent.. and if the guy who bought it just said no, then he would most proberbly still be here today.. :(

so calm down matey!!!!

You'll struggle to get a PCP set up for that money Louis.

There's an as new BSA Lightening XL with scope on the BBS for £195. A similar set up is over £300 new at BAR

Or a Longbow with MTC scope at Blackpool Air Rifles

Which look fair deals (depends if the Longbow is a Turk or not though I suppose).

At 14 the Longbow may possibly be a bit big, but the Lightning would be fine.

Good luck :)

What a load of old twaddle!!!

1st point, you say he isn't old enough to use an air rifle, then you correctly say he is, if accompanied by someone over 21, although it will have to be their rifle as he isn't allowed to own one.

2nd point, your s410 has a little recoil because it has a different spring in it???:blink: thought it was a PCP.

3rdly, you then tell the lad That a springer is out of his £300 budget, but he can get a half decent PCP. WRONG. Pcp's are the more expensive rifle generally.

I know you were just trying to help the fella, but i thought i better let you know it was wrong. ;)

But mate, this is what pisses me off (im 14) and because of twats which go around stabbing each other, i am not legally alowed a knife, for hunting purposes, so if this guy was stupid enough to shoot someone else, then why should it be taken out on people which most probably havent done anything wrong, and wont do. So I think that you most probably need to stop being so superior as you arent much older

edited to add this-

Young people between 14 and 17.

If you are between 14 and 17 years old, you can be given or lent an airgun or ammunition but you cannot buy or hire them yourself.

It will become an offence to give an airgun to someone who is under the age of 17.

it says this in the pinned section so neither him, nor you jaz can buy an airgun. And I recently recall you buying an S410
