adskibullus 0
heres a bit of poacher history i found.... "Poaching was a crime punishable by death, or sent abroad to Colonial Australia for seven years or brutal whippings. Why did they do the crime? To some this was a means of life and the only way to support a family to others fortune. Poachers used dogs called Lurchers, which consisted of a cross between a Greyhound and Shepherd to assist them with retrieving chasing and hunting down game from Gamekeepers properties. Lurchers were also trained to attack on command that were usually apprehending Gamekeepers" the shepard could this be an gsd type dog being that it was trained to attack? Quote Link to post
jakk 6
why do you think this cross will make a good lurcher mate? i just think the trainability of the alsation the aggression of the bull would make it ideal my friend has this cross and i just think if you add a whippet and made it slightly smaller it would be a awesome cross Quote Link to post

forest of dean redneck 11,519
why do you think this cross will make a good lurcher mate? i just think the trainability of the alsation the aggression of the bull would make it ideal my friend has this cross and i just think if you add a whippet and made it slightly smaller it would be a awesome cross id be worried about the whippet blood making them throw small. there was a gamekeeper advertising some bull/greys x alsations back in the summer. also you say aggression i assume you mean for finishing quarry off and not as an attack dog,i would say you wouldnt need bull blood as a alsation /grey would be capable of doing the job. with my bitch which is the spitting image of the black dog in the photo, its her high prey drive that causes me worry,i wouldnt like to add bull blood to the mix. Mars 42
Thanks Greg, !!!! I will agree that a Bull X can be headstrong, certainly can be difficult to stop once they`ve got their mind set on somthing, But hard work, in fact in my case one of the easiest dogs to train i`ve ever owned, to the point that sometimes i think she knows what i`me thinking, And up until yesterday i`de say bomb proof, Yesterday she had a coming together with my old Terrier bitch, a terrier with which she`s worked with on hundreds of occasions without any problems whatsoever, But we own them for their tenacity, and that ability to switch on that terrier temprement and yeterday was a very painfull lesson for a Grumpy old terrier, and a lesson for me to keep her under closer control... Which is the beauty of our game, their is always somthing to learn... Mars... Quote Link to post
