Long netting at night how dose it work ?

Recommended Posts

as Ian has said good long neting grounds are getting harder to find for most folk wishing to have a go at netting. And has been said light polution being the main threat to you concealed entrance to the netting grounds.

Also it has also been said that some of the things written wont stand true for all of us, how true is that. Simpley due to where you wish to use the nets or your own build we will all talyor our own needs to suit us as inderviduals, nothing wrong with that. same as all field sports, we adapt them to suit our needs.

The one thing we must all do to get the best from our nets is gain an understanding of the mechanics of a long net, be it basket type or endpin set nets. Same goes with the rabbit, we must understand its habbits rather than adopt a hit and hope approach wink.gif

always came across as a decent bloke moley .i noticed on his profile he aint been on for a long time .does anyone here see him about or speak to him .

Me and my mates do a bit of longnetting.

As said ideally you need a bit of wind and no moonlight.

you need to run the net out near the burrows as quietly as poss.

What we do is:- one guy runs out the quickset net whilst the other two stay well out of the way.

The guy that runs the net out then moves out into the field slightly to act as a stop near the end of the net whilst the other two quietly walk around the edge ofthe field and then gently walk the rabbits back towards the net. They obviously make a dart for the birrows and hey presto.

The key words are gently and quietly.

Definitely recommend the books if you fancy starting.

The problem we have is that our main permission is bounded by a main A road and a private school that has floodlights on all night and the best fields for the rabbits are all too well lit.

By a nice Catapult and `Turn them Off` LOL
