danebrewer10 6
Just bought myself an investarm single barrel 12 guage hushpower used with hushpower subsonics i can describe as loud as a spring on an air rifle brilliant gun it surprised me how quiet it is not a great pic off of a phone. why does everyone reckon on getting a .410 as a fist shotgun?? IMHO i'd get a 20 bore or a 12, use smaller loads, and when you grow into the gun, you can use bigger shells with 30 grams of shot, instead of getting to the point where you have a .410 which was fine then, but now you want something bigger and have to buy another gun! you can also get 12 bore subsonics, chech eley hawk's website, i use them and i can't fault them. they go bang when you pull the trigger and the birds drop out of the sky if you do you part! i think that no. 5 shot is minimum for rabbits, as they're pretty tough customers. squirrels are even tougher... whippeter69 88
I live with my mum and when i go over my dads house, his wife has a shotgun license (they got it for me to use a shotgun under supo) and i started off with a webely scott bolt action 410 3 shot, i had some good sport with it and i shot a good mallard off ower small pond at 35 yards. But then i got a 20 bore investram after a year and had some good sport with that, then a year after that i have got the 20 rizzini emilio and its a fab gun, iv had a few rabbits and crow with it, cant fault it, but i do a lot of ferreting and lamping now with my friend and now i am just waiting for my shotgun certificat to come in the post i can be given the shotgun at my dads so i thought of changing it to a 410 mossberg hushpower pump 3 shot for rabbiting. Hers a few pic of the rizzini emilio Quote Link to post
spiderpig 39
why do people talk about the limitations of a 410? there arnt any they can kill as far off as anything else its just the marksmanship that counts, they have a much tighter pattern therefore you have to ba a lot more accurate.you can often have better kills with good shot placement ,a half choke is still normally only producing around a 9 inch pattern at 30yrds depending on gun and barrel lenth compared with a 30 inch for a 12bore at the same distance i use fhiocci 3inch shells they are much more powerfull than the like of eley ect and are about £220 per 1000 Quote Link to post
spiderpig 39
my mossberg 410 fully choked spreads a lot more than 9" at 30 yards !! and yes, I said fully choked. And I wouldnt dream of advising a necomer to shooting to go out and shoot rabbits at 40 yards with a 410 like I do with my 12. They simply dont have as much hitting powerin my opinion, and not meaning to blow my own trumpet, but im not a bad shot with the 410 But, hey this is what forums are about, each to their own so to speak, so no hard feelings. If youre confident with a 410 at 12 bore ranges, im not knocking you !! go for it Il just stick to limiting my distances for now !! Id rather err on the side of caution than let an injured rabbit run off down a hole and meet a slow and painfull demise. Clean kills are always better. What load are them fhioccis ?. 21 gram. they have the exact same power as any shotgun pellet its just there is less of them hence shot placement is critical....i only shoot 410 now at everything from game to clays.if you can hit them you can kill them.ive been shooting clays out to 70 yrds Quote Link to post

activeviii 8
How does the moderater work as all th ones ihave looked at, when over the barrle, are tight onto the end of the barrle. with one on a rimmy or air rifle it is just on the end. has anyone looked inside. hows it made up and are there holes in the barrel. reason im asking is i have a single barrle 12g and a 410 bolt on its way. i have a full workshop with lathes and mills so was going to look at making, but if i have to do anything with barrle then i will leave it. Guest PERCY
I have sent off my SGC application and for christmas my step mum with a SGC and my dad (i live with my mum) wants to get me a new shotgun. If i get my SGC at my mums my step mum will GIVE it to me when im 15 in may. I mainly do a lot of rabbiting and pest around the farms with my mate, and i was speaking to the local gun shop person and he said for rabbit shooting around villages the Mossberg Hushpower 410 will be a good gun, I like this gun and my step mum and dad said they will be happy getting it for me, does anyone source one of these guns if so could you post some pic's and your views on them, Thanks I use a lumar o/u fold away a poachers dream Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
What shot size you you use for rabbits, and what makes the only half suitable cartridge my gun shop stock is express 3" with no.6 shot (not ideal). on a tangent when i was in america i saw rifled slugs for .410 (god knows how that worked with full choke as they usually are) but sound like a fox load to me Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
A pattern as tight as the .410, with a 3" load of 6's is lethal. Any higher, you lose the pattern. .410 slugs? Fired them when I was out there 50 of em. Great fun. And would not doubt be a lethal fox load. Choke makes little or no difference to slugs, in fact the little impact it has is that Full makes it perform worse than true Cylinder. Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
Oh i know it would affect pattern as its one lump of lead what i was trying to get at is the slug getting stuck in the choke or just blowing it out. if you understand my ramblings? Quote Link to post
