adskibullus 0
when i got my lad he was 9 months old and from a rescue so we had to get him neutered which at the time i thought was good. but i was talking to an old guy i know who does a bit of ferreting and he told me that it will effect how the dog grows because of the lack of hormones and tesosterone. he said that it will effect the development of muscles and skeleton. and could also have an effect on the dogs mental state and that he wont mature mentaly aswel as he would if he was intire. does anybody know if this is true? i personally wouldnt have had him done but the rescue already had it arranged at the vets. cheers

labsnlurchers 39
Mentally, the dog will think with its brain and not its balls! Physically, it will maybe lose a tiny bit of height and beef but nothing noticable. There will be NO ill effects skeletally. Weight gain is common in neutered dogs BUT if you keep on top of exercise then this will not be a problem either. My father has a neutered Bull, grey, whippet dog who never gets placed below 3rd in any simulated coursing event. He has half an hour free exercise at the horse field in the morning and 1 at night. GILES 2
I have a neutered lurcher and it hasn't effected him in any way.He runs well and there's no problem with his wieght and as far as his growth the dog is 30".So i wouldn't worry mate better job anyway if you keep or work bitchs and don't want him for breeding
lurcherlass 5
Depends on the dog and when it was neutered. Pups can actually grown taller than they would have normally if neutered early, but only an inch or so. Some dogs do put on weight, but this is easily sorted by giving more exercise and less food. There's a load of bollox (pardon the pun ) talked about neutering dogs affecting their working abilities - all the dogs rehomed by our rescue are neutered - mainly to stop them being nicked, but also to stop more unwanted Lurchers in the world - and if you want to see how it affects them, come to our Lure Coursing Event at Peterborough in October one year Some of the EofE chaps have been agreeably surprised by the quality of the dogs running. In fact this year there were complaints on the sunday at the East of England show that the "rescue dogs" weren't giving the working dogs a chance in the straight racing and they shouldn't be allowed to enter We have plenty of dogs adopted out who still have the same amount of spirit and stamina as entire dogs - with the added bonus that the bitches don't get mardy when they're coming into season and the dogs don't get distracted You can see some of our pix here: http://www.lurcherlink.org/llink/forum/vie...313&start=
