some local running

it was such a wierd thing, we'd had it last year on a couple of the dogs (2 stags), again at the very very beginning of the season after they'd been on their first coon. This year, same thing, but it was two different dogs this time, a russell and a stag? And seriously, the scratches were like cat scratches, nothing exciting, not too deep. The one bite on the russell was a jaw to jaw bite so I expected that to be sore, but all of the other wounds around it were what I would call superficial. Within a couple of days instead of them being scabbed over and hard, they were jelly like and the hair and skin turned into gel and just wiped off during cleaning, seemed to spread x10, and was very sore, but very shallow and it was like just the hair folicle was damaged. So it looks a lot worse than it was. Whether it was a virus or something else I don't know, one thing I thought maybe it could be was if the farmers had sprayed the crops with something at the same sort of time each year, maybe that could be it? We always clean and medicate the dogs when we come back in, the same process every time, so it was not that we didn't take care of them. Wound powder seemed to dry it up quicker, but it seemed to make them itch so next time I'll try an ointment instead and see how that goes.

the only thing that is like a virus that they carry that I know about is what causes Coonhound Paralysis, I lost a dog to it a few years ago and I would not wish that death on my worst enemies dog. If I knew then what I knew after I would have put him down at the diagnosis, but having supposed working-dog people tell me "so-and-so's dog came out of it fine" when in reality the few dogs that DO make it are NEVER the same dog again. f**k that, I have more respect for my dogs than to let them spend their last years gimping around not being "right". And to basically suffocate to death after 2 weeks of helping him drink, eat, shit, etc was just cruel to both the dog and us who loved and respected him. not a fitting end for any animal.

Ya'll are killin' me!!!! Seriously, though...it really got to be a joke about what I was going to break next....I didn't mentally kill the coon, tho.....FR has the name for the disease I apparently brought along....he'll have to spell it for us, though...I know I'll get it wrong!!!!! Think he's the only one that seemed to be immune, though....weird....

For the record, I truly do have an aversion to being in the back seat of a vehicle when the dog loads up and brings the quarry into the vehicle with me....ALIVE and VERY UPSET! Dead, I'm good with.....wasn't gonna take me real long to get away from that...just wish I'd have had the camera ready to go and could have gotten a shot of it!!!!

I just checked the camera....good news and bad news....it turns on and I can look through pictures on a card just fine. The controls all seem to work and it will take a photo....however, something is wrong with the lens. The picture you take is nothing but black...which is all you see through the screen or view finder. So...I'm off to look into FR's advice about sending it in.

I had an absolute blast....I do just really enjoy watching a dog do a job and do it well, no matter what that job is. I wish them coon hadn't all just lost the will to live when they heard I was coming....would have been great to dig a few more, but such is life. It was fun for me to see Blister and Tia working at the same time....an experienced dog versus a greed dog. She may be small, but she's got some grit to her. You guys keep using that salve and really give it a good run for it's money. I can get them in a 16 oz size, but no bigger...at least, not yet. If you really, truly like what it's doing for those dogs, I can easily ship more off to you. Tell your friends if you like it that well, also.

No worries on the leash....I've got another and I've got an "in" with the gal that's selling them.

RK-man....they didn't let me know you were planning a trip until them coon just couldn't take the idea of meeting up with me and committed suicide!! If I'd have known, I'd have tried to save you something!!!! I think the two funniest were the coon that charged Kye and Tor and then the coon that was trying to opt for death by running INTO the side of the car rather than face the dogs......good times, good times!!!

Kids, thanks for letting me snag your camera and shoot 'til my heart was content......glad we got some good pictures from both cameras! Looking forward to the next time!!!

ask FR how fast they are while he's chasing one around a field :clapper:

Not fair, you should respect your elders...... :clapper:

I must look like Ratkillah in the Colorado wastelands trying to catch a wounded jackrabbit in a farmers front garden.....like a gimp chasing a shiny ball...... :boogy::rofl:

Hahahah lol, i forgot that, me runing around like a retarted version of forest gump tripping out on mushrooms and chasing the foot ball but it was a jack rabbit "Mummma i'm gunnaa get him, no bunnie wrabit gettin' way from me" All i could hear is you and kye howling with laughter in the truck, Whilst i was being run around the farmers garden in a good foot of snow by the rabbit around and around lol. Thinking back i'm lucky he didn't have a dog out in the yard or stick his head out the window with his loaded boom stick to see a person running around his garden with the nearest house being miles away with the site of me running around what would he of thought, it could of ended in tears. But it all ended in was me body slaming the bunnie and a mouth and body full of snow. Good times good time. :clapper: :clapper:

well Wyo and FR can attest to this ... last week one night when Kye had to work, we sat in FR's kitchen for a good 1 1/2 hours just telling Kye stories ... my god I thought I was going to wet myself a few times. How could ONE guy have made THAT many people laugh that hard?

I think it was about two night before these pics was taken, but we was out with our big wheaten coloured bitch called 'Tor',..

I was spoting, we had FR behind the wheel, and WyoJRT was in the back (where all women should be!)...two coons bolt infront of us, and the dog is sent to them...of course, she goes for the bigger, and he was a good size at about 25lbs...

The bitch made contact, and starts trying to get things under control, and they roll behind an old house...we then start hearing muffled barking, like she is barking, but with her mouth full!?...WTF!?!?!

So go go to them, with the knife and a flashlight (torch for you boys back home... :D ) and she hasnt come off the coon, its well balled up on her head, and she is driving it into the ground, but there is TWO other coons there!...one is smaller, around 15lbs, and its circlying them, hissing and growling, and squaling on...the other, i would guess at about 20lbs, has climbed up the bitches back legs, and is chewing at her ham-strings!...i kicked at the smaller coon, and it fecked off staright away, and the one hanging on her just carried on!...i kicked him off, and for a split second, he came at her again, then i shone the light in his face, and he thought better of it!...CRAZY exsperiance!!!

The 'Tor' bitch done well that night, i think she got two coons, a ditch cougar, and a possom (released un-harmed)...we got a run on a fox, but the battery gave out, so hope to see him another day!...

Raccoons are a great quarry, i love 'em!...great for hounds, lurchers, terriers, and turns out they make great pets (so far anyway!)

Kye..

Very interesting post kye :D a quick question whats a ditch couger mate you have some funny animals over there  Them coons made a funny old mess of the dog's faces it look's like some kind of infertiger spreadng the same way is there many bunny's over there do you run many of them on the lamp ?
