snipper 0
Hi All, I have a plinker air gun and have previously had a .177" air rifle, you had to cock it after every shot and was spring loaded 'very old' however i am looking for one so i can take it up as a hobby, target shooting 'hopefully at a range' when i find one, and maybe a bit of ratting, i would go to maybe £300 and would like a scope etc. i am based in the north east if anyone knows of a good store? I have done some research and like the look of the .22" bsa scorpion. Any one have any suggestions??? thank you kindly. Quote Link to post
taff3915 2
.117 excellent for target shooting as it has a flatter trajectory, but the .22 has more stopping power so better for hitting those rats. personally i love .177 and wish i had never got rid, got .22 now. Depends on what your going to do more of ratting or target shooting. good luck. Quote Link to post

snipper 0
hi It was the Scorpion Carbine with scope for £350 I seen, not the T10 what is the difference in these models? or is a airarms a better bet rifle? Can also somebody please expalin how a pre charged pneumatic rifle operates compared to a single cock spring loaded rifle?? does this still need to be cocked after each shot? im really sorry for my ignorance but i have a very BASIC knowledge. thank you so much. paddy.t 5
BSA ULTRA are quite nice and not too expensive, why not look into getting a 2ND hand kit, get more for your money i.e Buddy bottle/ Pump. Daystate's are brilliant guns was using one at weekend, bloody ace. Spike: Love the T10 mate looks a nice bit of kit Quote Link to post
Guest buster321c
Well for 350 thats ok , but you will need to think about charging , as any PCP ( pre charged pnuematic ) needs to be filled with compressed air in order to fire , unlike a spring rifle which compresses a spring when the barrel is broken . paddy.t 5
IM Sure buster is writing this up in much more detail, he seems to he hovering around PCP (Pre charged) Is a cylnder under the barrel, that is filled from a buddy bottle or pump, get quite a few hundred shots per charge, and only needs cocking via the bolt to open the breech. Spring as you know needs to be cocked by brakeing barrel and inserting pellet. PCP's are a lot quieter and can be shorter. Go for PCP If im wrong in anyway, please feel free to correct me... Good hunting paddy Quote Link to post

Guest buster321c
To be honest the best thing to do is get down to your local field sports shop and have a mooch and fire a few guns , that way you`ll get a feel for what fits you best Quote Link to post
snipper 0
thanks for all the help some how much is it likely to cost for a pump etc, and can i pre load the carbine with a few pellets and just keep opening the breech? Quote Link to post
Guest buster321c
By the sound of it you will be looking for a multishot rifle . This obviously being a rifle that has a magazine that allows you to load multiple pellets . As far as cost of a pump goes , you would be better off with a bottle , and looking for a second hand set up that has every thing thrown in at a bargain price . Just remember , dont rush into anything and try a few at the shop first , as you might spend £350 on a gun over the internet and when it arrives it could be too heavy . So make sure you try em out Look for a few local clubs too as members will be helpful and full of advise ,atb Buster Quote Link to post

I would imagine a bottle of compressed air is more suitable than trying to pump it into the cylinder. thanks Quote Link to post
