jasper65 6
Just got my new Insurance through but noticed that it had changed . It used to be The policy Holder may also drive other private motor cars with the owners permision Basically this covered me to drive mates cars or whoever which I do regular... Its now changed to Driving other vehicles cover not included . I contacted the Insurance company about this who have now told me that because this car is now classed as Commercial in the tax bracket I am no longer eligible to be covered driving any private cars with the owners permision includeing other 4 x 4's.... Any advice on this I would much apreciate because personaly I think its a joke! I have always been covered for years to try other Vehicles with the owners consent but now this year it all seems to have changed, it might be worth checking details on anyone else who has renewed recently.... atb Jasper
artic 595
Are you fully comp? If so then you can drive any other motor vehicle on a public road that has insurance.

Geoff.C 0
A lot of insurance companies are reducing benefits on policies. They will give you what you want, but charge more for everything. Check out the windscreen excess for instance, most are at least £75 now instead of £50, and some are charging if you have a chip repaired. You need to read your renewal schedule carefully, I nearly went without insurance on the trip to work last year!!
jasper65 6
I have just been onto two different Insurance companies and neither of them will Insure me to drive any other car with the owners permision even under third party as they have in the past . one of them told me that alot of the Insurance companies are now tightening up on policies allowing people to do this anymore which is a bummer.... If anyone has renewed their Insurance lately and they are still covered for this can you fire it up for me Please? cheers Jasper
shell 42
We've had the same with the Navara. Hubby is main driver on it, insured with Budget, and he can't drive other cars on this policy. But, it doesn't really affect him as he doesn't drive other cars if you see what I mean. I'm with Budget as well for my little 106 and I CAN drive other cars on the policy. Just had a thought, but as my hubby is a named driver on my policy could he drive others cars through my policy and be insured? Shell

GarryN 5
Hi. Norwich Union changed there policy about three years ago to stop you driving any car. The other sheep will follow. If you want good cover off a real Insurance Company go to the NFU. National Farmers Union. They will also cover working dogs Quads and your guns etc. They are the country folks insurers. They are not always the cheapest but they look after the policy holder and they are all U.K. based helpdesks and they have agents in most of the small towns. Good luck. shell 42
jasper... I've just had a look at my policy. I'm policyholder on my 106, malc is a names driver, it then says 'Mrs Shell is also insured to drive with the owners consent... blah blah blah... other cars basically'. But no mention that Malc can. Elsewhere in the docs it makes reference to 'the regular driver' as being able to driver other cars, presume that is the policy holder. So that's a no go! I just changed my Insurance over to NFU and got the best deal of the lot . it worked out a little more expensive at £342 for me and the wife as the other named driver But my screen excess is only £25 when the other company wanted £100 plus a good few other savings in the deal... Much Apreciated mate Just one other thing if anyone can answer this!! my old Insurance company was a bit snotty and have told us we will need to pay them £25 for all their administration fees! obviousley I have told them to get stuffed but are they within their rights to do this? Jasper Depends on the wording of the product but theoretically motor insurance has no days of grace and so if you have not paid (full amount or first installment) by renewal date then the policy SHOULD be lapsed / not renewed. Also depends on whether the policy contains a cancellation clause which states that you have 14 days from renewal date whereby if you cancel you get a full refund and are not charged for time on risk. Theoretically the admin fee is not applicable as you have moveed your policy elsewhere and as such are no longer a customer, so I would tell them where to go(politely). In respect of the rest of the post, motor insurance has made huge losses for insurers in the last two year so dont be surprised if your premium goes up or your additional covers are reduced or removed.
