Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, thought i'd put my dog pens up for all to see. They didnt come togther, and are both made from different wood.... The shelter, i put there, purely to keep them out of the rain but also out of there dog run, so they had a bit of freedom while doing nothing else...They love it.... lol

My take on the metal vs. wood thang is this. .

If you can trust your dog(s) not to chew (or you can adequately protect it) then wood should be warmer. It looks nicer than metal but will require regular maintenance.

The metal panels are galvanised so require little maintenance, they are sectional so relatively simple to take down, dogs can't chew them.

All down to personal preference . . . . I can't trust myself to do the maintenance thing (and mine was originally put up for American Bulldogs) so chose metal.

metal. aslong as you can use a welder. its better because if you bugger up you can weld on or cut more off and dont need to warry about anything like treating it or what ever :victory:

Personnal preference i would imagine, and i find it hard to answer as i havent owned both, i should imagine you get people answewring the question who havent even owned one!

My dog started chewing the strutts, so i simply got that metal stuff what plasterers use on corners, beading is it, and nailed that to all the downward strutts, and it did the job.

In the sleeping area, i insulated it out, with loft instulation(you know that prickly stuff!) between the wood, and then plastic paneling which is double skinned as well, plus i put the insulation under the boarding on the floor as well, it is air tight, and very cosy, it also asd a heat lamp if they need it. The roof has been lowered to just above the dogs head when they sit up. And then the top half of the kennel can be used as a shed.... will try to get another pic of it later.

Same here, my young dog [ 13months old] still chew's , so he as B.B kennel and a galvanised metal run. If i had bought, or made a wooden one he would wreak the fecker :( and a bought one can cost up to 800£quid :o so metal it is ;)
