A statement made

Recommended Posts

"A farmer, was plagued by Rabbits, when he bought his farm a couple of hundred acres of down land was unusable as grazing land, it belonged to the rabbits. Groups of farmers formed Rabbit Clearance Societies which employed a man to kill rabbits on a bounty system. One of his sayings was "Never employ the same man for more than two years" in this role. Why? Because his job depended on there being rabbits and so he would (unconsciously) leave a few to breed. But if you get paid by the tail and you know the job isn't yours next year you clear them better."

I would like to hear your thoughts on this statement !

It is wide open for debate / views

Thanks

Obviously that would be the rabiteer that didn't have a team of hungary ferrets to feed, who have gone off chicken wings, dry, liver etc etc etc..

Because mine blackmail me in to ferting or shooting every white tail out there lol

just one unhappy look at me from their food bowl is enough to make get the rifle out.

I keep everything i shoot, so shoot everything i can manage to process..

My opinion..

Forget the "subconciously" .I 'll bet these chaps deliberatly left a few breeders behind or at least did'nt try too hard to get at the difficlt burrows .Think it might have been Sheil's Rabbits and their History amongst others who mentioned the tail removal and release scam.

Actually the idea of laying a a chap off after a couple of seasons meant that the trapper would do his damnedest to kill a lot of bunnies befre he went so as to get a few quid in the kitty and a good reference.
