Irish Lurcher 1,013 Posted November 10, 2008 Report Share Posted November 10, 2008 How old is the pup, my bitch was on the dummy at an early age, ya must teach the pup to be easy mouthed. And yes it can be done, I have had that dummy for three months now and she retrieves it very gently. Never once ripped it. I find that teaching them to take food from your hand without snapping it will help with the hard mouth syndrome, once the pup can take a small bit of chicken from my fingers without touching them then its ready for the dummy. I would always use the word EASY when I offer a piece of food for them to take from my fingers, and the same word for when I am teaching her to retrieve, its seems to work fine for me.
